RS replica kits are a piece of SHIZ!!!!!
as i announced last week, my car has been in the body shop since tuesday. The shop i bought my RS replica kit from in So. California is NOT standing by it's product. The only piece of the body kit that fits (and that is with 1 day's worth of modification) is the rear bumper. The side skirts are not wide enough, top to bottom, so there will be 3 bolts showing from the back of the door, and 3 bolts showing in front of the door. (pretty ****ty huh?). Now as far as the front bumper goes........that's another story. I don't even want to go there. Now i'm currently looking for a Lorinser DTM front bumper (which CEC says, because my clk is a 98 production date, it is NOT available to me), and a couple of side skirts, whether they be AMG , Carlsson, Brabus....i really don't care. I just want my car back.
anybody has any suggestions, i'm pretty much open to anything at this point.

Sorry to hear that clkal.........
but I guess with replica kit you'll never know what will be the end result until you bring in to the shop. Every replica kits are different and some will fit better like bruce's (lowryder) or joshk and some won't. All of them require extra time and work of installation for the fitment into the body. I assumed that this happened because they didn't have the original Carlsson RS kit in the first place to mold / copy the replica kit.
BTW, have the kit been painted at all? what did the bodyshop say after all this??

The original kit has similar fittment issues (I've seen the original ones at car shows at the Carlsson booth) and it doesn't fit as cleanly as mine does. Mine took considerable work, however and is a combination of replica and OEM (the only way I would recommend doing the kit). Sorry to hear about that clkal. I didn't install my RS side skirts so I'd be happy to sell them to you (inexpensively) and of course, since you're in so-cal, you can test fit them to your car before you make your decision. Let me know...

Later on in the off topic forum, it was brought up by someone and the title was "Replica Police". Otopalik, (moderator & owner of evosport) replied and answered that he will not let any replica stuff being sold in this forum because it's against the law, it piracy, bla bla bla etc. If lowryder's replica Carlsson RS kit was from evosport..... hehehhe it's a conspiracy!!!!

............are you sure that a lorinser DTM kit will not fit a 1998 CLK? Performance products carries the Lorinser classic kit for a 1998 CLK 320. This kit also fits the 2000 and up models, so by deduction, I would think that the DTM kit would fit a 1998 CLK. In either case, consider getting the classic kit rather than the DTM kit. The classic kit is a bit more understated and less outlandish in my opinion. It is more rare because most people get the DTM kit. I have the Classic kit in my 2000 CLK32K. Because the kit gives the car and edge in apperance yet understated, people actually think it is a special edition OEM mercedes.

Ted. Do you have any pics of your car w/ the lorinser kit on? The place that told me that MY year production date car is different than the 99 production date cars is a pretty reputable shop in the area. The guy actually was on the phone with CEC and CEC told him to ask me what my production date on my 99 430. I had to run back to the body shop to look. Once i told him it was a 98 production car, even though it was a 99 model, he told me that there was no DTM application for my car. After hearing that, i was thinking back, and remembered that I saw a 98 320 with the lorinser dtm kit, and a 99 430 with the lorinser kit. That is why i am confused now........

..............My car is on the Mbautowerks website, under latest project. It is the CLK32K coupe not the cabrio. Call Butler tire.......404-303-1114. They are the local CEC reps in Atlanta. That is who did my car. You can get another opinion from them regarding the DTM kit for 1998 CLK.

yes. those are the ****ers i bought it from. When i called the owner up to tell him about the problem with the fitment, all he could say was "what do want me to do? what can i do?" I will NEVER buy anything from them again.

Ted--I assume...
that was your car I saw at ACC last Friday morning. You're now running LM-6 in 19", right? Curious, can you help me with a source on the rings for your instrument cluster? My car's a 2003 208, thought yours looked really nice (through the window that is). I'm right down the road from you in Macon. Thanks for your help, perhaps you want to mail me off the board so we don't take up too much space....AA

Ted,
Curious why you didnt install painted side markers to your car?Would definitely make it look even cleaner without those nasty orange blinkers...

I got the RS Replica kit from Felix, he says his kits fit well. Of course I wouldnt expect it to fit perfect, as it was said earlier, not even the original kits fit perfect, but I will find out and post soon. The car goes into the body shop soon.
