^^^I raced the E46 and got my *** handed to me....but I did beat the 04' Acura TL which has 270 hp. . I know for a fact thatthe TLis running high 14's quarter so if I beat him by 2-3 car lengths...a stock CLK is running mid 14's with a trap speed of close to 100 MPH.. Most of the reason why it not faster is because of the gearing cause it does have grunt.

the power to weight is not that bad but the tranny is the biggest vice...its a cruiser and never designed to race or even autocross. I've had many cars and the clk430 has the best all around package...it really does everything well and its best feature is its sexy body

also I may add that my car has 15k and had no problem whats over compared to my 02' CL-S which needed a new tranny at 22K miles....which made me get the 6 spd. and now I have the clk430...Im pretty happy

Absolutely, the 208 430 is in my opinion the most beautiful MB out. Thats why I purchased it in 02'. Didn't want to wait for the 209 body, looks too much like an accord. The e46 is super fast, and we really can't stand a chance against it, however the e36 is another story. All in all the 430 offers the best of all worlds, power, comfort, luxury. A good buy as long as you're patient. Best of luck with it. Truly.

now Im not saying I dont believe anybody clk430 beating the e36 cause those car are pretty sick guys...M are not classified as regluar cars they side closer to full out sport cars...but for arguements sake does anybody have the stock 0-60 times and quarter mile times.

if I remember correctly its 0-60 in 5.2 sec. which is a little faster than the 350Z...the 350 Z is running high 13s low 14s...so if thats the case it doesnt seem feasible...I will double check tho

I am sure he is a cool cat, but a little over sensitive especially when I wasn't even talking about his car. I was talking about mine, and that was like 100 posts and months ago.

Anyways, this post was about the e36 and the clk430 up against each other. As you see, I posted the numbers. I could give a crap about my car, I didn't buy it to compete against others. I bought it because of its looks, styling and appreciation.

The E36 was good for its time. As for calling it a 100% "SPORTS CAR", I disagree. To me a "SPORTS CAR" is a Porsche 996 Carerra or Mercedes SL55 AMG or Toyota Supra TT.

All the others (including the E36) are "SPORTY CARS". This includes Saabs, Audi S4, Honda S2000, Mercedes SLK, and the BEST one of them all, our W208 CLK 430 / CLK55.

If You really want to compare Like to Like, Compare the E36/E46 M3 to the CLK55 AMG. "M Division" is BMW's tuning division and "AMG" is Mercedes tuning division. It is only fair to compare the products each of them produce with each other.

Regardless of Price, the scale goes like this:

CLK 320 vs. BMW 325ci

CLK 430 vs. BMW 330ci

CLK 55 vs. BMW M3

Now I know the Benz's are more expensive than the Bimmers in each level, but it Costs to be the Boss!!!

my exact words are "they side closer to a full out sport cars." which is true...you can disagree all you want but the majority will agree that the E36 was and the E46 is closer to a sports car than a regular car. The CLk55 vs- E46 M3 I will agree is a better comparison but its not the clk430....if I remember correctly the clk430 lost to the bMW 330 5 spd. in 0-60 and quarter mile runs.

here ya go...if you notice the higher trap speed meaning that the clk430 is a late starter cause of the gearing

I remember when I was gonna buy a Porsche 911 older model I think 2001...even the salesman was telling me that the M3 is faster and handles great but the Porsche looks so much better...so I would think the E46 is closer to a real sports car

your assuming my frustration with you started in this thread. It didnt start in this thread it just came out in this thread with your usual" clk isnt what you all hype it up to be" attitude. But it could have easily come out in any of the other ones.

Would you prefer an '04 E46 M3 or '04 W209 CLK55 AMG?

I think the CLK55 AMG is even closer to being the better Sports Car and Luxury Car Combined between the two.

What you prefer is all a matter of taste, daily driver CLK55, softer suspension, less punishing. E46 M3, punishing ride. Setup for the track, tough on your lower back. As far as which one is better, well you decide. Here is the website to compare the two.

Comparison Test
Do a comparison test, it gives real world stats by professional drivers. 0-60 times, track times, you name it. They put these cars through everything.
