Convertible top
I just bought my 2001 CLK 320 from a friend the car is mint with only 106000 kms always stored for the winter which brings me to my dalema?
When the car was put away for the winter the battery was disconnected, since the unit was taken out of storage the soft top does not work (was OK when it went into storage) Here is where i am at with it, when i unlock the the top and lift it 8 in all the window go down! but the the rear head rests don't go down the top will not operate, the head rests will operate when using the sw on the dash but the top will still not work sw flashes slow, i checked the pump relay and find it has 12v ready and waiting but the top switch does not send power to activate the relay,i jumped the the relay block with 12 volts and the pump operates.
I am led to believe that there are many limit switches in the system?
I would appreciate advice on how to test the system and the sequence it should be done? Dave

When the trunk luggage cover is not in position or the trunk lid is open, the flashing frequency is faster (e.g. 3 Hz).
He also said that after the windows lowered, the power roof did not operate, including the prerequisite lowering of the roll-bar, which indicates that the hydraulic pump may not be operating.
Although there could be numerous reasons as to why, he also indicated that when he bypassed the pumps motor relay with a jumper, the pump operated.
Note: When overriding the relay, use caution, as the protective circuits within the power roof/RB controller (e.g. watchdog timer, temperature overload) are also overridden and the motor could over heat and burn out.
The relay has been a somewhat common failure. The relay contacts, that supply high current to the pump motor (e.g. 30 amperes), arc and become pitted, which then will no longer pass the necessary current to operate the motor.
A simple test to determine if the hydraulic pump relay is the problem, would be to just temporarily replace it with the fuel pump relay.
This could be good info for other people that is having the same issues.
Thanks again guys for your comments.
