Shifting Issue

My problem started yesterday when I got home. I pulled into the garage and tried to shift from Drive into Park but the shifter wouldn't go past Neutral. I used a pen to bypass and got the shifter into park. I was then able to get the key out. I played around and noticed without the key in the ignition or my foot on the brake I was able to shift through all the gears and everything works fine. As soon as I start the car again I’m unable to get out of drive again. I’ve ordered a brake stop switch and hopes that fixes the issue but I wanted to know if anyone had any other ideas of what my issue could be. The car is driving fine with no issues other than when I try to stop and put it in park. Thank you in advance.

Most of the time, what you're describing is the brake light switch, as you have ordered. The switch is a normal wear part.

I received the brake stop switch and installed it but the issue is still there. I read it could be a voltage problem so I fully charged the battery and that didn't fix it either. I am still able to shift to any gear without the key in the ignition or my foot on the brake. As soon as I start the car and put it in drive I am unable to move the gearshift past neutral without using the override. Thank you for reading and I hope someone has seen this before and can help me out.
