When I had my old AC compressor that was leaking, the "EC" mode would stay on and not turn off meaning that the car recognized the bad compressor and refused to run it. My mechanic just put in a new compressor but the light still stays on and pressing the button does nothing...do I have to take the car to a dealer to reset the computer? Would disconnecting the battery overnight do the trick?

no idea how he figured this out but as soon as you start the car, you press the defrost button and EC turns off by itself or allows you to turn it off then you just go back to normal. should work until i get a chance to visit a dealer
