creaks over bumps and driveways
Hey,
As you guy know, I have been happily enjoying by 01 CLK 430 for about 2 months now. However, I noticed when I go over steep driveway or certain speedbumps there is a creaking coming from the back of the car. Do you guys have these kinds of creaks. I would expect this from a ford or chevy but a Benz, I thought these things were as solid as vaults??

I have the same thing with mine, if I go on a steep driveway at an angle and the vehicle torques. I just attributed it to being such a tight vehicle and the tolerances being so minimal, but don't know for sure.
I don't have any problems on bumps though. Hope this helps some.

Would you say it is a very loud creak, kind of like an old fashion rocking chair?? Also, do you think the dealer can do anything about this??

I have the same noise. It is coming from the the rear side panels. I took it to the dealer 3 times and they did not fix it.
Another problem that I had was the spot welds in the rear hat deck broke loose, and there was a lot of noise. It took the dealer two weeks to repair.

It may be coming from the ground effects, move it around with your hand right under the door area and you might just hear that creaking sound...that the way may 00 and 01 208 430's were.

so once I replicate the sound at the dealership, what do you guys think they will actually do. The creak over driveways is pretty annoying. Also, I am almost positive it is coming from trunk too.

Finally got a chance to drop car off at the dealership, service advisor said the creak is common with CLK's. He stated the shock valve a top of shock tower gets very dry and causes creaking. They replaced seal ring and as a bonus both tie rod joints on front suspension as well replaced transmission guide busing seals. No Creaks what so ever. Mercedes service ROCKS!! 1st class all the way!!!

Dealer was Star Motor cars on old katy road, Houston TX. Service advisor was named Carlos, and the master tech that worked on my car was named Zach. Maybe I was lucky but they new exactly what the problem was and the fix. Also they hooked me up with a Nissan Murano loaner, pretty neat SUV but funky lookin' And yes Greenway Mercedes sucks for service!!
