There's no way we can prevent stuff happening to our cars. You just have to be careful where you park.

You could fix the mirror, and then either risk another $800 mirror, or buy an $800 beater car to drive to school.

You could put an aftermarket alarm on you car that gives voice commands, and put the radar option on it and it will tell them to stay away as the approach. I had one on a Vette several years ago that was made by Viper. If someone got near the car it would say "protected by Viper--stand back".
You'll have to park away from other cars, but that is a good idea anyhow.

I'd say, that kind of an alarm is kinda cool... for about 10 minutes...

other than that, I think an alarm as such would just provoke people to damage your car even more....

Personally I had good luck with it. It either drew attention to the area and they opted not to mess with it, or in the case of opening doors on it, it drew their attention to the vehicle and they were more cautious.
Now I just park far enough away that if they are around it, they are either admiring it or up to no good.

I would just lower your insurance deductible to zero and then be carefree of where you park.
