What's the camera for?
Other than an aid while backing up?
Does it really help?
Do the reverse lights provide enough light at night to help?
Or is it just a fun toy?

......................The camera is for reversing. Also it can be used as a rear view mirror with sound while driving. It is the same idea as getting parktronics at a fraction of the price plus video.

That location is good for parking. For a rear view mirror/camera functionality, i think that is better located at the top of the rear windshield. more visibility there... but good job, looks good. i thought about doing something similar too...

btw, is that the smallest camera size? what size is the cutout for the camera?

Oh, and is that is Euro Comand or did you get that to work with a US Spec Comand?

..........You are right, but it depends on the camera angle. The way I have the camera angled allows me to see the ground as well as the typical rear view mirror view. Also it is a wide angle lens so I can see items on both sides of my blind spot. A pretty cool feature I thhink is the microphone which allows you to clearly hear conversations that taking place outside the car through the stock speakers.

The camera diameter is 1cm. The command is a Eurocommand that has dvd, tv etc already hooked up.

Why would you need sound when reversing? To hear when you hit the car behind you?

..........exactly!.......obviously this was just a fun project, but the whole rrear view camera with sound thing is not new because of stories of people backing into things, running over little children etc.

...........also that lady that ran over her cheating husband several times and claimed it was an accident should have had a rear view camera in her s55 so she could have seen him or at least heard him as he is yelling expletives after the first several times she crushed him with the massive benz.

You know what you should do also? Put another camera on the driver side. This way when someone pull next to you at a light, you don't have to turn your head look at them. All you have to look is the screen and they don't know that your looking at there face. There's an idea.

..........the camera comes on with a one button push on the Marantz remote controller. I could have set t up to come on on reverse but I chose not to because........one fun thing (ok, yes I'm strange) about the camera is that it is pretty neat looking at the cars behind you, watching the ground dissappear and hearing your exaust note from the car speakers as you accelerate and leave other cars behind. Its sounds like a race car. I guess, the camera plus the Kleeman=fun.

Would it be possible to feed the input from the camera to some sort of software designed to recognize the profile of police vehicles. Same technology as face recognition but instead the software will alert you if it sees a profile of a police car, i.e. dotted yellow lights on the inner side of the headlamps, sirens on top, certain model type of car. This way, if a cop starts tailing you then an alert will go off to remind you that youve forgotten the speed limits on the road.
