CLK430 vs G35 Coupe
just curious how's 00 CLK430 (W208) compared to Infiniti G35 Coupe (03-04) in terms of acceleration, handling, etc..
no flame just objective opinions

my take the auto G will be a close race but the G35 6 speed will take the clk in the begining.
clk's biggest vice is gearing, it need better gearing to put the power down immediately. It like racing in a 10 speed bicycle and start in the 8 speed gearing

my opinion dont race them since they have better gearing a manual tranny with similar power
but then again not everybody can race with a manual tranny only the selected few so I think it will be much closer than the G owner would suspect.
oh and by the way Ive seen G35 go neck to neck with the 350Z which have done sub 14 sec. quarter.

1999 CLK430
The G35 has similar horsepower numbers but does not kick in until a much higher RPM. Before I bought the CLK430, I test drove the auto version of the G35 (no stickshift available on the lot at the time) and was not impressed with the lack of low end grunt. However, it did handle well and the manual would probably be a fun car.
The G35 trunk space is a bit too small and I prefer aactual trunk to the hatchback design.

Not a direct comparo but same platform/engine.
My friend has a stock 02 350z manual touring pack. From a dead stop he will smoke me because he's a manual and can drop the clutch(jumps out like 2-3 cars). But from 5mph roll on I pull him pretty good and it only gets better from there on up.
I do have k&n's and eisenman exhaust, but I have 19" wheels too so I should be about as fast as a stock clk-430.
Regardless I don't think the G35 is as fast as the 350 so as long as you are doing a rolling start it shouldn't be a problem.

correct me if I am mistaken:
did you guys refer to the fact that from a traffic light (or stop)..the G35 will win (auto or manual)?
I am not sure if 350Z is much faster than the G Coupe.

It's like my friend with a new '04 Acura... he keeps pulling up next to me wanting to race. I look out the window of my CLK430 and muster up the greatest look of disdain possible.
I'm in a Benz, he's in a ricer... I have nothing to prove

Do you know that the g35 coupe is a bigger car than the clk 430? My friend told me that and I laughed @ him saying he was wrong but sure enough we went to both sites and compared and the g35 coupe is longer, wider and has more interior room...The trunk is just pathetic though.

haha as a matter of fact i've raced a g35
! it was on the way to vegas and the G passed us and went in our lane, we changed to the right lane and try to pass him. he gave it little gas and want to get it on. so we both stepped on it. i don't think i floor it tho(pretty close). and i don't think he did too. but we were just accerating side by side all the way to about 110 then the trafic is closing up so we slowed down. there was no winner but i think he can take me easily. it had the areo package which pulls .26 drag which is much better than our clk and it's limited at 155 not 135.
They are nice cars but for about half of the price of a new clk. it's a very awesome car. (for that price if you really want to get it running there are superchargers that puts 380hp at the rear wheels for about $7000+ labor. that'll put you smoking m3 and probably run head to head or maybe even more with a Z06.

Used to be a CLK430
Wow, how coincidental...yesterday on the way home from work a G35 pulled up next to me and then punched it...he must have seen me trying to catch him so he slowed down. We were doing about 70 and he downshifted (manual tranny) so I got on it as well, I pulled on him all the way to about 125 then let off. Granted I didn't leave him very far behind, probably 1.5 car lengths, but it was fun!!
