Modified CLK (muffler/air intake) shaking
Hey,
My CLK starts shaking when I come to a stop, brake and the car is in D. It seems like the RPM drops too low (just a tad above the 550RPM mark). The shaking stops when I put the car in 'N'. The shaking also goes away if I step on the gas a little bit while still holding the brake and tranny in 'D'. It seems like the rattling goes away at around 700RPM?
I was wondering what is the regular RPM when the car is stopped and in D for you 320 guys out there? -or- another question is, anyways to raise the RPM a little bit? I know in other cars you can turn a bolt.
I have the MagnaFlow muffler and the Home made Bruce style air intake. I was wondering if anyone ever experienced such thing. Especially LowRyder, since our cars are almost identical. Bruce, your input/experience is exteremly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The idling RPM seems about right. Idles are usually between 500-700 RPMs, but shouldn't go below the 500 mark.
It may be just the muffler giving the shaking a little. How bad is it? A lot or a little?
What year and mileage is your CLK320? Motor mounts aren't out of the question, as those do have to do with vibrations if you just sitting with the engine on.

GDawgC220, Thanks for your response.
The car does not vibrate at all when the engine is running and the car is in 'P' or 'N'. However, it does shake when the car is stopped in 'D' or any other gear (more if the engine is cold or if the weather is hot) I've noticed at times the vibration level is higher than other times, and sometimes it's a very minimal vibration and I have noticed at those times, the RPM is just a tad higher than other times.
You mentioned 500-700 RPM sounds about right. I do have shaking at 550 RPM, but I have no shaking at 700RPM, the car runs just fine. I've tested a few times while at a stop light, kept my foot on the brake and lightly touched the gas a tad so the RPM raises to around 700, and the shaking is almost noneexistant, and the car does not feel like as if it's struggling to move forward.
BTW, My car is a 99 CLK with 29K miles.
I Hope this helps a little bit to maybe able to pin point my problem a bit further. Thanks again for your constructive help.
J. Lucas, Next time I see Simon or Brad, I'll be sure to chip in for my bandwidth fees.

Babak,
There could be a lot of possibilities that are causing the rattling. If you have any friend who does engine swaps or know some mechanical stuff have him check it out. Mercedes isn't too different from japanese import and domestic, so shouldn't be too hard to find a person to check out what the problem really is.
