2000 clk rust issue
I went to my dealers body shop friday and dropped off my clk320.
they are repairing a small line of rust just to the right of the
piece that holds the license plat lights. They told me that this is not
unusual and that mercedes has a serious rust issue with all of their cars. In their opinion they feel mercedess should fix any and all rust issues free of charge.
They also mentioned that rust is usually found under the trunk
key lock.
The technician them took out the screw from my door jam and pulled off the anti dent moulding. He said they are always finding rust there due to bad engineering. luckily mine was clean.
He suggested taking either black electrical tape or the 3m product used to protect the hood and run a strip just below the uipper lip of the moulding. putting it as clsoe to the top but
low enought that it does not show. He says this minor addition will prevent rust from occuring. he suggested both sides and
the small door mouldings just in front of both doors.
Has any one heard of this and has anyone experienced unusual
rusting?
By the way my 320 has only 42,000 but the in service date puts it out of warrenty but the dealer offered to fix the rust under warrenty. This tells me they know they have issues.
I also have heard that in europe they hace a 30 year rust
guarranty on rust even if it occurs from the outsid in as opposd to
the inside out.
Thanks
Merceds backs their cars for 10 years on rust, call MBUSA, complain and they will fix it for free. This is their policy not just the dealers. Its a little un-known secret.

As well as the trunk, the corner just a tad tad bubbling of the paint.
