722.6 - How much abuse can take?
Hello everyone,
I would like to use my Clk320 W208 as a track days car but after reading a lot of contradictory things about the 722.6 gearboxes i have second thoughts.
Overheating, failure, lag, engine brake bla bla
SO, what do you think/heard/know about how this type of gearbox handles stress?
I just changed the atf, filter, pan gasket - everything works as it should, it doesn't have leaks or other problems but i am thinking if it can take several hours per session of agressive driving without blowing up.
Let me know what are your thoughts.

I dont know what you have read but these things are pretty indestructible. With a 320 I would be shocked if it had a failure that was not do to lack of maintenance.

I think you might spend several hours at a track during a session but there's no way you spend hours of actual track time. 15 minutes, then you sit around for a while, the engine, brakes, transmission, everything cools off, rinse, lather, repeat. I'd not sweat it. I've read these 320 CLK transmissions are the same transmission is used mated to engines with a hell of a lot more power than our 320s.

The 722.6 is most definitely a slow shifter, but they can take some abuse. Both lack of maintenance abuse (typically, at least) and hard driving abuse. I would be genuinely surprised if you blew it up with a 320.

Thank you for your input.
I have changed the atf with filter and pan gasket and checked the connector for the famous leak (no issues).
So I can go confident on a track day now.
