Pissed OFF!

Ok, so maybe someone can answer me something. I took my 430 in Monday for B service and was handed a new loaner. Now what I am confused on is the following: I was given a 2004 C230 Kompressor, which is a sharp looking little car that lacks in a few areas, and is a bit dissapointing on power. However, what is very disturbing is the advantages over my 430. Here is the list. Mind you this is IMO:

Seats are 10x more comfortable
Interior appointments are more attractive
Front Brakes are cross drilled / ventilated discs
Handles better
One touch back and forward sunroof
One touch up and down rear shade
CD Changer in glove box - standard
Auto driving light feature.
Backup sensor
Radar / Electronic Speed control

I am just dissapointed that this 34k dollar car has more appointments and features than my 60+K dollar car. Just one more reason to go with another auto manufacturer. Ok so maybe some options weren't available in 02' when I bought the car, but DAMN! It is aggrevating..

Hmm you got a 2004 car and it had more features than your. What year was your car again? Exactly... a g35 coupe has more standard features than a 208 clk..

The fact that my 2003 has a cassette player as standard still bugs me.

It all comes down to the advancement of technology. :0( My current computer is far more advanced (and was considerably cheaper) than the last computer I bought.

Although car prices tend to go up over time, so does the list of standard features.

Never fear my friends.. Mercedes has quickly found out that they cant keep playing the game called "You WILL pay more for a Mercedes no matter what". As the newer Mercs are coming out they are putting more in them to maintain the current dollar to car ratio. Honestly, all studies point that car manufacturers would have to drop thier prices by 25% just to keep up with the current consumer pace. Merc is not about to DISCOUNT thier cars as GM. So they have to get inventive and put in a ton of extras and make them standard. What is sad is that the Merc and Jag (high-end cars) where the leaders in luxury until Acura, Lexus and Infinity came along. Now they make it more affordable with more standard stuff. Makes me wonder....how long will Merc maintain this status. Dont get me wrong, I am a Merc fan until my pockets run dry!!!!

..........i have no doubt that if anyone on this forum test drives an Acura TL, they will secretly wish it had a mercedes logo on it. Far and away a superior car. So, you would have been even more angry with your CLK if your dealer did not give you a mercedes as a loaner, but gave you an Acura TL.

I really need to drive that Acura to see for myself, the latest issue of car and driver really blasted it in a comparison test, I think it came in 3rd after the caddy and the g35 but before the 4th placed subaru. They said the torque steer was horrible and the handling is all jarred up.... Really not a good review on that car at all...

I drove an Acura TL and loved it. I didn't like the fact it was front wheel drive. Too much going on up front. But it definitely blew the CLK away, for the money anyway.

I am not in here to bash on benzo, but they had better get thier butts in gear. If I owned the company I would have a few people dedicated t browsing the internet to see what peeps are saying about the car. Free feedback...now that is worth its weight in gold.....Oh ya forgot to add...

I guarantee that the benzo gets more chicks then the TL

Yes, it does get more chicks, but If I buy a car for the chicks, I'll get a ferrari. I wanted a benz because of the prestige / practicallity and alleged reliability. BS is what it turned out to be. But I am sticking by it for now.

The idea of having a marketing / research team browsing the internet / forums for feedback is priceless and would be fantastic. Would certainly get their butts in gear.

CLK 430
I was at the gas station the other day, and there was a new TL on the other side of the pump I was at. The guy came over, and was telling me how nice my ride was. His eyes were bright as two light bulbs as he walked around the car admiring it. CLKs are fairly exclusive where I live...I've only seen a handfull of them in the year or so that I got mine, so that probably had something to do with his interest. And, no question, the CLK IS a beautiful looking car. After talking with the guy for a few minutes, I was left with the impression that he would rather roll in the 430 than his TL.

The biggest thing the CLK has going for it is timeless, classic looks, RWD, a great V8, great transmission, and of course it's a Mercedes!

I test drove the TL last month, and it is truely a beautifully designed car. When it comes to comfort, features, and cutting-edge technology, the Acura wins hands down over the W208. Two very different cars though, and not really a fair comparison.

I figure my 01 430 with K3/K4 is worth about the price of a new TL. As much as I love my 430, if I could do an even trade for a new TL, I'd take it!

wow amazing to hear this! I am a honda/acura fanatic.. I really love the edgy new technology. But a benz is a benz.. clk is such a beaut... if I had the choice between the two cars.. I would take the benz. german > jap. Ladies love it more.. and I am tired of looking at all the hooked up japs at car shows. German is so much more RARE!! To be rare and unique is more important that being edgy imho. second post for me.. LOL -Jai

The TL is not in the Benz's League. Might as well compare the Camry or Accord to the W208 CLK. Both the Camry and Accord are going to have better technology for a better price.

Analysis tells you that updated technology and features for a cheaper price are weapons that the Japanese use to justify their products as substitutes for Mercedes.

Mercedes is an original in every sort of the definition. As a leader and originator, Mercedes is in a position to be followed, copied and imitated.

This year's TL looks great, performs great and is great inside. But this year's TL does not resemble a 1999 TL in any way. The future 2007 TL will trump this year's TL. The Japanese do not create originals. They create copies that have no character or brand unity. Much like a piece of software versus a classic car.

Ill keep the 430 CLK, you are aready seeing a ton of the TL on the road, the Clk was more of a limited production car, when it first came out there was a 8 month waiting list, and here in Texas, I only see another Clk about one every 2 weeks.

.........I think your above two comments pretty much sum it up. The question is whether getting a better valet spot is worth the extra $30,000 you pay for your CLK.

.........subjectively, I like mercedes benz cars and will continue to buy them. I also know that many mercedes owners simply take it at face value that mercedes has the best engineered cars on the road. This clearly is not true.

But at what price do you start sacrificing? For instance, wether imitated or not, the japanese make a far more superior / reliable car than any other car manufacturer on the market. Hands down. You may not get the prestige that you get from a MBZ, but it is still a more reliable car. Secondly, if Mercedes is always duplicated, imitated or copied by other manufacturers, why does the new 209 look like an accord that has been out in current body style for over 3 years? Honda stole the plans for the 209 then copied them? I think MBZ said, lets start mass producing cars and make it more appealing to a younger crowd to sell more.

When I picked up my 208 in 02' I was told that there were only 8k+ made per year. But as I found out, and someone else pointed out on this forum a while back, there were more like 20k+ per year. Now to me that is not limited production. Limited production is 786 per year like the car I am leaning more towards now. Not to put dowm MBZ, but I think they are starting with a lot of smoke and mirrors to sell more cars. IMHO.
