K&n+o2=pwned?

K&n+o2=pwned?
Today the check engine light came on, so I brought it to the dealer. They checked it out, and they say it was the O2 sensor and needs replacemenmt. Could the K&N filters have effected this, or is it just the milage of the car? Does keeping a broken O2 sensor matter? Or can I run the car without the sensor? I feel the car rev's more freely, but I just might be thinking that

o2 sensor is in the exhuast. K&N filter wouldn't have anything to do with it going out.
How many miles on your car ? o2 sensors usually get replaced every 60,000-100,000 miles.

My air mass sensor went out twice. 
once the light came on after goin 10-90MPH pedal mashing getting on a freeway going slightly uphill almost getting airborn.....
same thing happend on my old ML.... but not in the same location, but pedal mashing none the less...

Up in Canada we call "smog" "aircare" and I passed it just last week:p I tested my car yesturday with the Gtimer, and my best run was 0-60mph in 6.38s with 1 passenger. So far I dont think the O2 sensor is affecting anything. Ill get it replaced this summer once I get new headers
