Is ESP programmable?
If I'm not mistaken (at least here in the USA), when the ESP is manually deactivated it is only "turned off" to about 15-20% effectiveness. If I remember correctly, someone once posted that this is some sort of factory default setting but the dealer can reprogram the ESP so that it can be completely deactivated. I haven't verified this with my service advisor yet. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks for the reply my friend but not quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more like using the software to "personalize" your car. For instance, someone once posted that the alarm/horn could be programmed to sound when locking and unlocking your car much like many other cars. Apparently the factory default setting for the alarm volume is zero but supposedly this can be changed. I was hoping the ESP could be adjusted in the same manner.

for those interested, apparently it is programable according to sleestack. I found his post in the old MBworld CLK forum.
...however, even when you turn it off, it actually continues to be on at about 20%. It can be reprogrammed so that it cuts off 100%. I had it done and am very pleased with the results. - sleestack 12:47:17 10/20/01

There is a module that you can buy that cuts off the traction control 100%. I mistakenly thought Oberklasse had installed the module, however, after some aggressive driving, it was apparent they hadn't. It costs about $1200. I plan on doing it in the near future. I'll post comments when it is done.
