Rust under trunk handle on a 2 year old CLK
Thought I'd let you know. At first I saw small bubbles in the paintwork. I slightly unscrewed the trunk handle it revealed a small rust spot clearly visable (.5cm sq) right in the corner on the left side. Dealer will sort it out.

I took delivery of my CLK in Feb 2000, it is the facelifted model with indicator in the mirrors (this type of model was introduced in August 1999), so what Model Year is it? (I think MY2000)
Also what is the cause of this? Any other rust spots to look for?

As I said, I just use ALLDATA as a barometer for possible problem areas. Many problems indicated overlap MB models as well as years.
Again, perhaps the moderator/MB mechanic MBTECH208 may wish to comment re your specific concerns.

What should I do?
Took it to the dealer and I have three options:
1. Have the whole trunk lid replaced
2. Have the rust cured and have the whole trunk lid resprayed
3. Have just the area cured and have only that area resprayed.
Also what was the recommended course of action when people have had this problem. All under warranty.
Appreciate any advice

MB RUST warranty is LESS than luxury car competition:
MB has only a 4 year/50,000 miles RUST warranty.
Porsche: 10 years/unlimited miles.
Infinity: 7 years/unlimited miles.
Jaguar: 6 years/unlimited miles.
Lexus: 6 years/unlimited miles.
BMW: 6 years/unlimited miles.
Audi: 5 years/inlimited miles.

My CLK is in the UK
Here they give 30 Years providing it has come from inside coming out.
Concern is trunk lid not fitting exactly the same, and that the bootlid will have fresh paint where the rest of the car is 2 years old. They won't respray the whole car.
Anyone found it on their cars. Dealer said it is a comman problem with quite a lot of cars.
Apreciate all your advice

If your car is white or black, I would go with a patch repair. If your car has a metallic colour I would go with a new lid, because -depending on your bodyshop's skills- blending metallic colours is more difficult than solid color paints.
On second thought, condidering that you have a 30 year rust warranty coupled with the fact that the sun does not shine much in the UK,- so fading of metallic colour is probably no issue, - and your concerns with lid replacement, get it patch repaired - irregardless, whether you have solid or metallic colours.

Since it is a metallic paint, what is your decision,- repair or replace trunk lid?
