Question Trailer Hitch

I would like to put a trailer hitch on my CLK. Anyone accomplished this? Seems you need to buy a ML if you want to tow anything.

Thanks,
Dave Bell

Towing is not recommended by MBUSA and there are warranty issues if you do. For that reason, there's not much available in the USA.

Of course, your factory warranty is either gone or nearly gone on a '98 so warranty isn't an issue.

It's pretty common to see M-Bs in Germany and other parts of Europe with a light-duty trailer hitch installed. Maybe some UK CLK owners can help.

I could be wrong, but I think U-haul will put a hitch on just about any car!

I checked with U-Haul and they do not make anything for it.

There are some technical stuff in my UK Manual for a trailer hitch.

Note it is only for a CLK320 and that it is not available for the CLK430 or CLK55, or any CLK320 with an AMG Bodykit.

I can post them on the board later this week if you want.

I realize this thread is 9 years old, but in case you are interested in a trailer hitch on your clk...

I just installed a curt trailer hitch on my '01 clk55. I found it online for around $150 and installed it myself in around an hour and a half including emptying and refilling my trunk with spare tire and tools.

Installation is pretty straightforward; the only thing the instructions failed to mention is that it is helpful to take the exhaust off the 3 rearmost hangers to allow for easier access when drilling. Also, I recommend drilling pilot holes before the full size holes to be sure the hitch ends up where you want.

Now I can get a bike rack that won't scratch my paint!

Trailer hitch for CLK320 W208 2000

I'm trying to get a trailer hitch fitted for my CLK320 but the shop tells me that no hitches exist for this model. They ordered one in but when they went to install it they found it doesn't fit. They called around and they found that you can get a hitch for the convertible but not for the coupe, which is what mine is. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get over this issue? I really do need to get a hitch fitted to this vehicle otherwise I can't tow my boat. Thanks!
PS, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada if that makes any difference.

Do you know for sure that this one works on the W208 coupe (not cabriolet)? According to the shop I went to it works on the convertible but it does not fit the coupe. I don't see personally why they should be different but do you have personal experience that it does fit? Many thanks for the response, much appreciated!

I'm fairly certain this is the same one I put on my 55 coupe. Install wasn't too bad, and it works great.
