The service guy I talked to last week said I would not be charged for the B service. I hope not since I'm bringing it in tomorrow.

Depends on the model, but for my W208 B it's like $450. A is around $300 or so, I'm not sure.

The dealer should have the prices posted around the service desk (they do around here anyway). If your warranty is up, they will make you pay for it... otherwise it's covered (for now... )

How's your warranty up at 30K?

Define a normal dealer. All MBZ prices are pretty standard. 65-75 an hr. Service A is oil, filters, tire pressure, fluids, and over-all check. It's the first time check that this beautiful beast goes through.

Service B after warranty

I can understand why someone would pay for service A or B while their car is still under warranty, but why wouldn't you just do the work yourself? If you can change your own oil you can do the service A and B yourself. If money is no object, I can understand why you just take it to the dealership. Most people are very capable of checking their brakes, air filters, rotating tires, lubricating the throttle shaft, and changing/checking fuluids. All this for around $60 with synthetic oil.....
Anyone out there get their tranmission filter and fluid changed before the recommended 100K miles? I'm pondering doing this at 60K miles as I'd like to see my transmission last.

You got a couple of questions in there, so I'm gonna break it up...

It's a matter of convenience. Even out of warranty, I'd much rather drop the car off at the dealership, grab a loaner and be on my way to do other stuff, than spend the time to take care of it myself. Maybe I'm lazy, but so what?

Even paying for it, I can drop it off on a Saturday morning, head on out to the bank, or to the park, or whereever, instead of having to spend the only free time that I have under the car messing around with it. Recently I've taken more interest in doing some of the work myself, but for the last 2 years it wasn't even an issue: drop it off and be on the way. If you're not really interested (or have the inclination to) change the cabin filter or changing/checking fluids, taking the car in to a pro to have it done (hopefully) right is a no brainer IMO. YMMV, of course.

I had this done about a month ago... the guy at the dealership was telling me the horror stories of older cars coming in with tranny problems because MB didn't wanna touch them until 100K... Cost me $350 at the dealership, btw...

The service guy's rationale made sense though... either spend a few bucks and have it done now, or take your chances with an $8k transmission down the road. Seemed like a good idea after that.

People who can afford a Mercedes wouldn't really cares about the service charge as much as honda people...

Coz the time they save on working on car may generate not millions but thousands or hundred dollars already...

..... One exception...... C Class owners may want to work on their car themselves... .................. Who knows,, those crappy Mercedes always break down... I had really bad expeirnce with those C240 loaners., 2 die on me in a row ., for my last two services.,

You can do service A yourself because it only consist of ENG oil change and all round check. Service B does, drain and refill of all your liquids, vent filter change and all around check.

I can get you guys the exact list but If I were you I won't do Service B my self.

It could be a Honda or a Benz... it's all about the type of person you are, not the kind of money you make. There are people with nicer cars than me... yet I take my car in for service and they don't. And also the other way around... there's plenty of people here with bags of cash in their closet, that own Cs, and they do the work themselves. They don't care that it costs $500 to do X or Y... they LIKE working on their cars.

Go check out the AMG folder and you'll see a ton of people that have $20k worth of mods in their cars (which are already pricey to begin with), yet they do the mods themselves, because they like to work on their cars.

If that's not trolling, I don't know what is. I'll let the C owners come around and put you in your place.

Service A, IIRC consists of the following:

* change oil and oil filter
* change cabin filter (at least on the W208, not sure about other models)
* all-around bulb check, check the wiper and wiper fluid
* check the tires and tire pressure, brake pads and rotors
* check all fluids and reset the FSS counter

Other than reseting the counter (which I have no idea how to do), I would assume that you can do all that yourself, if you have the time and the inclination to do so.

Service B is the same thing, but it also adds:

* replace the wiper blade(s)
* rotate the tires
* lubricate the throttle linkage
* check the e-brake and steering
* check the front axle ball joints
* check all fluids and reset the FSS counter

Not sure if I missed anything, but I might have.

Used to be a CLK430
The services at the dealer are a rip! I'm at 62K and will be getting a transmission service very shortly. Truly, I'm not interested in dropping $8K on a tranny in a couple of years.

Also, how do you lubricate the throttle shaft??

Not for one originally sold in Canada and now residing in the US, as many are. Apparently MBUSA and MBCanada(?) don't play well together.

I think that is a bit on the low side. Here they charge $105 an hour.

Here, on the right coast, they are generally 75 an hour. I thought that was reasonable.

Unfortunately..i've had the car over 4 years so my warranty is up even though I only have about 30K.

I had the service done and it was $450.

But now I have a engine oil warning that keeps coming on. I had the oil changed at the service, but I think it's a sensor.

Anyone else have this problem yet?

I had that happen during my last Service B. Checked the oil and it was low for whatever reason. I took it back to the dealership and had them re-check everything and make sure that there are no leaks in the system.

And of course, they have to do that for free.
