Fuel gauge is Kaput!

My fuel gauge has finally gone, and now I do not know how fuel is in the tank or the range I have left.
Do any of you guys know how much it is to have this problem fixed, how long and how intensive.......
Car is out of warranty

Thanks again!

Derek

Fill up your tank, and take it directly to Mercedes, if your car is still under warantee, you'll be okay, just get a loaner. Hope all goes well!

I wouldn't fill up your tank....
I had the same problem and when I took it to the dealer, they asked me if it was ok to drain all the fuel.
it will just make it harder for them to fix your car if you fill up your tank.

its most likely the fuel sensor that went out, and thats a very common issue with the CLK... its bound to happen to everyone sooner or later

since its a pretty common thing, if you take it in to ur service advisor, he/she'd would probably take care of it free of charge

Thanks for the responses guys. Unfornately, my service advisor is in Montreal, while the car and I are in LA county. Car is out of warranty as well.
Do you happen to know the ballpark figure of the cost?
TIA

Hey, its about a $450 fix. I just went thru it last month.
MB comp'd it though! As far as the gas, if they are working
with you, try and take it in with a 1/4 or less. If they have
you in a headlock to put out cash, then go for the full tank
and make them earn it, lol.

Seriously though it makes their job easier and faster if it
is almost empty so they dont have to drain it, and re-fill it.

I had a bad fuel gauge and just had it fixed by the dealer. Mine failed due to bad Shell gasoline here in south Florida. I filed a claim with Shell and they paid for the entire repair which cost $1200. They replaced both sending units, flushed and cleaned the fuel line, replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the injectors.

I have the same problem but it comes and goes. I'm always running out of gas anyway so it's no big thing to me. I just reset the trip odometer and gauge my DTE by my average MPG, it's much more reliable. I usually get about 350-400 miles per tank with A/C running so I refill at about 300 miles whether my fuel gauge is working or not.

Thats exactly how mine went out. You are lucky they paid it
though. I had to send my local MB dealership up to bat for me.
It got done though, and didnt cost me anything.

BTW, I will never use shell again!
