![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have the head unit, amps, speakers all picked and ready to go...but everywhere I go the installers scratch their heads at getting good, tight bass into my car without taking up the entire trunk or porting into the cabin. (quality, not quantity in my goal)
What have you guys used that works?

I have two 12" JL Audio subs ported through the rear armrest in a bandpass enclosure. The box doesn't take up the entire trunk. I have also seen installs that use one 12" inch sub that takes even less room. You can see pics of my install at this site: Lorinser CLK

Out Of Control!!
I have used 2 12W6 (older ones) powered by a ppi amp in my W124 and it hit, but nothing amazing. My brother has 2 10" diamond audio's and is using the same ppi amp i was using and his hits alot harder. I've heard good things about the w7's as well. What amp do you have to power the subs? If your just looking for clarity you should go with a bunch of 8's. The bigger you go, the less clarity but louder.

The amp is...
The planned amp is an Alpine 250w x1. Thus, I would have to modify that purchase if I were to get a box with multiple subs. I am looking for the smallest sub set up so that I can get it out if needed...but I am not too willing to give up quality. My worry is a sub's sound, in the trunk, will not come through the seats.

250W is not alot to power a sub, the sound will definitely travel through the seat though, you dont have to worry about that. You just wont be heard from a block away. Given that amount of power (assuming its an RMS value), I would just get a jl 10w6 or an eclipse 10" sub and call it a day.

most 12" subs dont need much more than around 1 cubic foot of airspace in a sealed enclosure. as far as bass making it into the cabin, youll have no problem with that. a couple screws will remove the barrier behind the armrest into the trunk. aiming the sub such that it is firing towards the trunk(away from the cabin) will give you more than enough sound. but if you want tight, accurate bass, steer clear of JLAudio and stick with a sealed enclosure. im using one Alpine Type R 12" in a sealed enclosure that takes up very little of my trunk. i can still easily fit two sets of golf clubs back there, along with being able to shake fillings loose if need be.

Viktorious- what kind of amp is pushing your w7's and whats the rms output? Do you have a problem with rattling noise cuz I did in y W124 (the gas tank would rattle like crazy!).

JL 1000/1 Amplifier and a 500/1. Not sure how many OHMS I was pushing. I can check for you, I got the whole trunk Dynomatted because of the rattling... Insulated everything, after the dynomat, the tank cap wasn't rattling. However, my levels were fairly low, bass was set near -3 and treble was +5. Excellent sound with the Bose combo if you keep the speakers, however i eventually dropped in MB Quart components in the doors, which is why I bought the 500/1 amp, to push just the speakers alone. Very awesome setup, and man did they knock.

You ran 2 subs off a mono output amp? And when you replaced the speakers with mb quarts, did you replace the 2 speaker sets and the tweeter in the door and the set in the rear decklid? Because I have a 4 channel PPI amp and plan on getting the same setup you have but I thought I would have to choose only 4 speakers plus the tweeters (leaving one set of speakers functionless).
