On and off check engine light...

On and off check engine light...
is pissing me off!!!!!!!!!!
I brought it in to get it checked and found it was one of the O2 sensors.
But why does the light keep coming on and off....??????? I want to bring it in again to get it checked to make sure that it's only one of the four sensors before I order a replacement...can a diagnostic be performed when the check engine light is off??? This friggin light comes on at the most inappropriate times (weekends and evenings when my garage is closed).

So I can take my car to the Benz shop and have them check and see which O2 is bad, then buy the part and replace them myself.
How hard to replace it ?, would you notice the performance of the car if O2 is bad.

What Benz shop in San Jose (bay area) would you recomend to take the car in for diag when CEL on/off intemittenbtly.
and how much does it cost for diag test

Wouldn't the rich fuel mixture eventually burn out the catalytic converter if the sensor's not changed??
