2000 CLK 430 Conv.
It has happened to me once every so often. I turn on the car and
see the 'NO CD CHANGE' message comes on when I push the CD button.
It some times goes away when I turne off and then on the car.
Some times the next day the problem goes away.
It doesn't happen that often, so I've never looked into what might be wrong.
I think there was another post a while back on this subject/problem.

try moving around the cables on the cd changer, or taking
the battery off for a while. (the battery thing seems to fix
alot of stuff on MB's for some reason)

I have the same issue - 2 weeks ago I unplugged the battery and reset everything (windows, sunroof, radio, etc....) and now I am getting the same error again saying no cd changer - what gives, why does this keep happening? I don't want to unplug and reset my whole car again... what is causing this stupid error and how can I fix it for good?

For this problem, unplugging the CD changer itself is the same as unplugging the battery. To disconnect the changer, just disconnect the power. The fiber cable doesn’t matter, although to remove the changer (which you may want to do) unplug the fiber too, and the couple of screws holding the changer in. Removing the changer won't necessarily allow you to remove the six disk cartridge. I've found when the changer is uncooperative, pushing the eject button, and tapping the changer with my fingernail is enough of a shock to get it to eject the cartridge.
Personally, I've gone this route.

Ok, update. I removed the changer, and unplugged both the fiber optic and the power plug for 30 min. Nothing changed after plugging it back in. It will eject, but that's about it. After I slide the magazine in, nothing else happens. I think it used to load the cds after it clicked in place, can't remember. All I know is, the radio says "no cd changer" when you hit the button. So is it the changer that's bad, or the radio that's bad?

In most cases, the head unit knows the CD changer exists and is in place. The 'cartridge / magazine' is the problem. The changer doesn’t sense the magazine, and it broadcasts a "cartridge not in the slot" alert. That’s why you see the error message. As you’ve seen, killing the power does zip, because power isn’t the issue. That also explains why tapping the magazine used to occasionally work for me - the tapping triggered whatever the changer uses to sense the magazine. Your friend could use this as an opportunity to upgrade the head unit. After 12 years, it may be just plain worn out.

Thanks for the reply! I did some more digging and it seems if you manually mess and try to turn the "worm" gear inside, that can free up the unit and make it sense the cd's after you put the mag in. See here:

Some of the replies suggest the same issue I had, and moving the gears around manually can get it working?
