Am I able to get an extended warranty?

Hi guys-

I just purchased a 99 CLK 320 with 56k miles from a private seller.
The car has an MB extended warranty that has 2k miles left on it/ends in November.

Can I purchase another extended warranty on this car? Say 3year/100,000 miles? If not, what options do I have?

Thanks for any and all help
ben

Your only choice is to go with an aftermarket extended warranty. Good luck!

I've had good luck with "Warranty Direct" they will also cover all emission devices such as O2 sensors and the MAF at a $99 additional cost to the basic coverage, I've had to use it twice already in the six months I've had the warranty.

Is it worth it to purchase the extended warranties? How much does normal wear & tear really cost?

Whatever you do, make sure the warranty company has a good reputation for paying claims. Call your repair facility and ask which company works well with them.

This isn't the first time that this question has been asked. As usual, either nobody seems to know, or nobody is willing to share. From the lack of responses everytime such a question is asked, I must assume that it's a waste of money.

Well, it's a fortune....

I've requested multiple quotes from various companies. (Extended Auto Warranty Corp, Warranty Direct, Click4Warranty, etc... as well as many others, but I do not have the info on hand)

On average, a bumper to bumper warranty (covering everything the dealer covered on the initial warranty) is between $2k and $3k for ~4 years/60-100k mi.... I figure if I have any problems in the next few years (radio, ac, powertrain, etc.. ) it will be well worth the $. I anticipate some issues...

Chappy - Thanks for the advise. I will give the local MB dealer a call to ask if they accept it and what kind of rep the companies have..

Do you have any actual numbers of evidence to support this, or are you just assuming? Not one person on MBWorld has been able to give us exact prices for repairs in the numerous threads where this has been asked, so I have to assume that it's not much. People generally tend to remember spending a fortune on repairs.

... Just to clarify, you asked for the repair costs for the CLK?

Not one person? Well I suppose I am / could be the MBWorld member of the month! ( lol ) ...

When I purchased the CLK from a MB dealer (a couple mos ago), I was informed that the manufacturer's warranty was about to run out... I was told that any repairs in the future would be very costly.... And that an extended warranty would be well worth the investment. I did not think about it much.... until recently...

Shortly after I purchasd the car, I noticed the brakes making a squeaking noise, and then a scratching noise from the brakes. I also have a problem with the air blower/fan; it changes from high speed to low speed... Sometimes once in 10 minutes... Sometimes 10 times in one minute.

A relative of mine worked for "the local major MB dealer". I'll ask him what he knows. (Labor rate, parts, etc.)

You also have not given me actual prices, only "what the dealer told you".

Okay.... I see I see.

I have yet to hit up the dealer with my list of things...

If I go there w/o a warranty and get prices, then go back there w/ a warranty at a later date, will they screw me ?

Even the best warranties have exclusions....including the Mercedes-Benz extended warranty (not StarMark), but the extended warranty offered to the original customer. For example, my CLK is an '02 and my factory extended warranty excludes radio, CD changer and COMAND.

My advise? Select a quality aftermarket warranty company, based on performance (will they PAY claims, not just advertise that they do). PLUS, put $2500 in a CD/Money market for that 'rainy day' that eventually comes with all automobiles.

Good luck!
