Newbie to MBword, question on CLK 320
I'm currently driving an Audi A4 2.8, its a good car, but im selling it and buying a higher milage CLK 320. My question is this, is there any difference in modability between the 98-99-and 2000 year models? I know that the 2000s are nicer as far as interior goes, but under the hood are there any large differences that would affect performance mods? Any advice you would give me on buying a high milage CLK? Im here to learn so i appreciate any constructive input i can get. Thanks.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Buy the ....
newest one you can afford. I'd rather have a 100k 02 than a 25k 99. Not only is the build quality dramatically better, there are numerous enhancements that started with the 00 year in the US (revised front fascia, Tele aid, improved steering wheel with controls, in dash readout, improved radio, some prepaid service in the warranty period). This also takes into account that the 98/99 cars were just about the nadir of lousy Mercedes build quality and quality control. As with most german cars, buy the newest one you can afford. My .02... and I've owned 5 W208's.

I remember reading in Consumer Reports that the 1999 year was the most reliable for CLKs. 2000 was I believe the worst. No doubt this is because there's a lot more electronics in the 2000 and 2000+ models, such as steering wheel controls, and the + and - gear shift thingy; convenient but buggy?
I think engine wise there probably isn't any difference, but I dont know for sure. Whatever CLK you get, make sure you get a Starmarked car, and go for the extended warranty; it will make you feel safe and more carefree. My two bits.

clk
Glad to see more people from the East coast joining the forum. As for what year clk to get......pick the one with the options you like. (98/99/00/01/02) You will be the one driving it. If you get a warranty make sure you check what parts it cover.

Thanks for all the help guys, yeh i noticed that this forum has a lot of West Coasters, different from the audi forums thats for sure (mostly Northeastern, probably due to quattro). Smalldog, where in NC do you live? Do you know any good Shops around the Piedmont, Triad region or in Charlotte? Peace.

W208 CLK320
The 2000 has more features, and should be more reliable (as it is a little more new). Ensure that it comes with the standard Starmark Warranty, and upgrade it as far as possible. Mercedes parts are ridiculously expensive.
