1999 CLK 320

HELP!!!! CLK 320 Tramsission

I was jsut told that the transmission on my 1999 CLK 320 is gone. This happened without any warning as I was driving I suddenly started hearing noises so I took my car to the closest dealership.

Thay looked at it and told me that there is something broken inside the transmission and the best case scenario is that I would need to get the transmission replaced. The worst case is that I would need to get the Torque converter replaced along with the transmission

I am oout of waranty on this car due to access no. of kilometers (mileage) that I 've put on my car.

Any ideas on what can I do? or would it be possible to somehow get them to do under the warranty

I guess you can try to take it to a transmission shop...or some other independent MB shop. When the transmission on our 1992 500SEL was slipping and missing gears, the mechanic replaced some parts inside and it worked good again. Well...up until now actually so we're gonna trade the car in. The SEL has a mechanical transmission though so not really sure if they can do the same thing with the fancy schmansy doo-dads they put the CLKs. That really is terrible...what you might want to do is search e-bay or look around for other 1998-now 320 cars that were in wrecks and are selling for next to nothing. Might even be able to contact them and buy just the transmission or somethin...

Thanks for all your inputs.

Doing some digging I found that there were issues with the 1998 - 1999 CLK tranny.

Would you guys recommend fitting (if it is possible at all) a newer model tranny if there were less issues with those to my 99 CLK.

What year w208 CLK has the most reliable transmission? Would it be possible to put a tiptronic transmission?
