01 CLK 320 Shifter Play (Touch Shift)
I have a sloppy shifter and looking at the Touch Shift linkage diagram it only has 1 bushing (#15). I went ahead and got that green bushing (#15) and installed it on the shifting rod end piece (#70) as indicated.
Now shift lever feel has improved a lot, but there is still slop, especially between N and D.
Watching the linkage from underneath while a helper manipulates the gear shift lever, the play seems to be at the
other end of the shift rod (#60) at the pin where it connects to the transmission.
It looks like there should be another bushing there? I cant find any reference to it though.

In this old thread https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...ement-diy.html , someone posted that there are supposed to be 2 bushings on the shift rod? No details though!

What's could be causing your N->D shift sloppiness, may likely be that the shift rod has not been adjusted properly.

Thank you Serendipity for the instructions!
Before I got to read this I passed by my parts dealer and asked to see the bushings they have. I had taken rough measurements of the hole in the transmission range selector lever (33) that the shift rod (63) hooks on to. It was around 14mm, and bushing 2109920010 was a good match. So I got one and put in on. It snapped on like it was meant to be there, and no more slop rowing through the gears!
I will try the adjustment if the bushing fix doesnt work out, I dont feel like diving down there again at the moment lol.

So poking around at the transmission part of the catalog, I finally found the relevant diagram for the selector lever the shift rod connects to.
#22 is the selector lever the shift rod attaches to. There is indeed a bushing there, #27.
#27 is 2109920010. Which is exactly the one I picked out at the parts dealer lol!
So to sum it all up, the 722.6 Touch Shift shifter has 2 bushings to replace to remove slop:
2029920010 - bushing between shifter and shift rod end plate
2109920010 - bushing between shift rod and transmission selector lever
