Does anybody have an in-dash dvd in their clk????
I am interested in putting in the new pioneer AVIC N1 in dash dvd/navigation into my 99 clk 430 and i was just wondering if anybody else in here has installed that in dash or a different one into their clk. how did it go? are you satisfied? does it work fine? How does it look? How much did it cost? any info could help. im just trying to get some info on how it went for other people so please, tell me anything. Any pictures of your car or any mercedes with an in dash installed would be nice too. thanks

i can get a pic of a 350z with the avic n1 but that wouldnt really help much. what i hate about it is that the screen is one of those flip-up things so it looks kinda odd. i think mmgrad has an eclipse double din one but i dunno if it plays dvds or what. oh and another thing i think is annoying is that with the avic, you have to keep the dvd in to use the nav...im not really sure about these and how others are, but if i was making one, i'd put a drive in the control module :P

I've installed a Pioneer Avic X1R (UK spec) which I think is similar to N1. The unit is a single DIN & I've installed the 'brain' in the glove box...
I'll post some pictures...
Change the speakers next I think.. Any1 recommend some decent door speakers. Not sure whether to change the subs on the rear parcel shelf - Any1 know what size I need & how to take the old ones out??

check # of pixels first before you buy, if screen clarity is at all important to you. the eclipse unit i was looking at had fewer pixels than both the pioneer and kenwood models of similiar price. also read reviews on crutchfield and amazon.
i just bought a kenwood dnx 5120, it had the best user reviews and best features for the money. plus the navigation is garmin, so you know its good.
if you are settled on a pioneer get a better model, the Avic Z1,2,3 models are great, so is the new F90.
i'll post pics tonight.

I had the Kenwood 5120 model for afew months but wanted a larger screen. I upgraded to the JVC KN7000 and love it. It has a few more features including a detachable face option. Fits great!

i think for now the 5120 works for me as far as screen size goes, but i could see wanting a bigger size eventually. but the lack of the volume knob is an issue for me. even if you have steering wheel controls its nice to have the knob. there are others that have bigger screens, but thats why i got a flip down for the backseat.

Along with helping the original poster, this original post helps new people looking for the same info when doing a search, so it probably still serves a purpose. Just my thoughts. It helped me even though it's dated.
