How to enable DVD player while driving...

I just purchased a Kenwood DDX-7015. Its an indash dvd-screen. My installer said that he wouldnt enable it while my car was in drive. Does anyone know how to enable the screen while my car is in drive?

do kenwoods need to have the brake pressed and the parking brake engaged to view the dvd? if so, then its like the alpine units and there is a "black box" unit sold that bypasses the video safeguard. check other local audio shops that sell high end equipment or ebay.

I work at Best Buy and some of our installers say that only the older units can be grounded. He said something about me hitting the brake twice while pulling the E-brake to make it work. These are the same guys that said my 99 CLK with fiber optics cant have an after market deck installed. I cant trust the guys at work. Does anyone know if pulling the E-brake and hitting the brake twice will work?

[QUOTE=Money] These are the same guys that said my 99 CLK with fiber optics cant have an after market deck installed.

I heard that this is true too. I looked into getting an aftermarket sound system installed and someone told me they had to rip everything out because it was fiber optic. Is this true, what options do i have available for aftermarket stereo/entertainment systems?

my CLK comes with a fiberoptic system... and i ahve an aftermarket system now... no problems whatsoever..

don't listen to people who don't know what they are doing... if they are telling you they can't do it cause of fiber optics, then you are obviously going to the wrong places... i wouldn't let people who give me such BS answers get within 10 feet of my car...

i have to agree. i have a 99 CLK and i have a complete aftermarket system installed. dont believe anyone at "best lie". my advice is to go to a high end/competition quality shop and ask them questions. at least info shouldnt cost you anything.

I have an Alpine multi media unit in my CLK430. I don't know how it is wired, but my installer just told me to depress the brake, put it in reverse, put back in park, then depress brake. The monitor is then enabled.

I did this before for the alpine which requires hand-break and foot brake twrice to activate DVD. Here is what I did and it works:

Go to Radio Shack and buy two type of switches (this costs you about $5 or less):
A. A regular on/off switch. This one connect to the ground to simmulate the hand-brake.
B. A "push/realese switch . This one connect to the hot wire (normally it's 12V from the battery) which simulate the foot-break.

So after you're done with those connections, all you need to do is turn "A" switch on and then press "B" switch twice to activate your DVD.

Hope this help,

TD430CLK.
