Stuck in Recirc - climate control

2003 CLK 320 cabriolet
Stuck in Recirc - climate control
Just picked up my first MB vehicle. 2003 CLK 320 cabriolet.
having issues with the vehicle stuck in Recirc. Recirc led off, but it is still in recirc. Sometimes it moves to fresh air after 30 minutes or so.
I ran the reset procedure (could not get LEDs to blink). Did check the climate error codes, seems like there are many in the climate control display. No CEL on DIC..
no clicking sound from actuators, but no fresh air.
stumped..
Oh,, I think I have the W208, though it's an 03, it has the same interior as the 02 models. June 2002 is the date of manufactur.. but listed as an 03 according to carfax and my insurance
Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting?

I THINK this is correct:
Even though the recirc button is off, the recirc flapper does whatever the computer tells it to do when the system is in auto. In the heat of summer, a system set for auto will follow the computer protocols (max cool is a recirc condition). Mine did this, and I had the same question.
