CLK 99 Cabriolet
‘98 W208 Convertible Roll bars/ head rests go up while stationary.

Hi. Thanks to this forum (specifically Serndipity member’s instructions- thank you) I have narrowed my problem of being incapable of lowering the roll bars of my 98 w208 convertible . The problem was a faulty no 13 trunk fuse box insert ( not the fuse itself but corroded metals inside the fuse box that were arking). For a couple of years I could not lower them and I was hearing a double clicking noise every 4 seconds for 2 minutes to 30 or more. Before that when I could lower them they used to go up by themselves occasionally for no apparent reason. Now that my hydraulics are nearly ok ( I need to replace-fix a leaking cylinder ) the roll bars went up by themselves again while opening the door even though I had the pump’s hydraulic line disconnected ( using the screwdriver). What is the problem , a faulty roll bar valve, the soft top ecu or something else? Thanks for any help

In the case that someone has the same problem I believe that I fixed it by replacing the soft top ecu.

This place is a joke.
Did you buy a new or used ECU?

I bought a used one. I opened and checked the faulty one and I believe that there are a couple of connections that seem “burned”. These are the connections of the “gyro” sensor I believe because when I tilt the ecu I hear something like a ball moving inside of it.
