2002 clk320
2002 clk320 130,000 miles in limp mode

I took it in to be repaired and was told
Accessed the EGS module under the right front foot panel and found that the harness was wet with transmission fluid. Removed the connectors and found transmission fluid has wicked into the module. Will need to replace the module and replace the 13 pin connector sleeve at the transmission as this is allowing fluid to push into the harness. Will need to clean out both sides of the harness connectors as well.

And it's $2500

Can this be done cheaper? I'm in a tough financial pickle at the moment and can't pay that much.

Can it be replaced with the transmission in the car? If so, Ebay and a good DIY video on YouTube is your friend.
