Trans service question

Considering doing the trans service at 50K. Options are trans flush for $80 at a local shop, will not involve removing the pan or filter, or MB shop trans service for $200 which replaces the pan gasket, filter and changes the fluid.

If you plan on keeping the car, do this one.

Wow, I just got a quote for an independent shop to do the whole shabang for $350+!

That's a good price either way. I say just go for the full monty.

I called the dealer and they said that they do not offer the service becasue our transmissions are unserviceable! Sometimes, you just have to call back and hope for someone else.

Exclamation Trasmission serviced and had a problem today

I was skeptical of Mercedes Benz saying their transmission servicing interval was 100K miles so I took my car in three weeks ago to have the fluid and filter changed. The techs told me that the fluid was a little burnt and it was good that I had it serviced. This morning, on the way to work, my car went into "limp home mode" and wouldn't shift out of second gear. I turned off the car and restarted it and it worked fine. Being paranoid, I took it to the shop since I have a warranty left and I haven't heard back from the techs yet. My guess is the valve body. So much for preventative maintenance, huh? Anyone else had their car go into limp home mode before w/o the check engine light coming on?

looking at patrick's(euro-mb-tech) thread i would not have the trans serviced unless it is shifting funny or leaking.

i called all the local dealers around o.c. and none of them recomended changing the trans fluid on 2000 or above models.

Used to be a CLK430
Got mine done yesterday @ 65K....independent tech said the fluid was black, the car is soooo much smoother now! He said it is imperative to get it done by 70K as many transmissions don't last much past that. Seems like we are hearing conflicting stories.

the shock for me was that when i bought mine, the maintenence costs were very high, or atleast much higher then what i was used to. but it IS a mercedes, so i would suggest to keep it running well regardless of the cost. the more expensive option might be the best way to go.

Found the problem

The techs called today and said the car was ready and there would be no charge for the repair. They found out that a bushing in the shift linkage was worn and caused the car to slip out of gear. This caused the car to go into limp home mode. So preventative maintenance didn't atrribute to the problem. The shop fixed it for free and gave my car a wash....highly recommend Mercedes Benz of South Bay in Torrance. Top notch service and they have a quick turn around time.
