Air Con maintenance
Hi all,
I'm in the middle of trying to replace the expansion valve on my 230K because I've already tried replacing the compressor and didn't see any improvement.
Has anyone here already done this job? Can you give me any tips?
I've got so far as to revealing the valve but I don't see any straightforward way to get it out. see photos
the fire bulkhead is right up against the pipes and all access to the screw is blocked

why are you just changing parts? and hoping it fixes whatever issue you have?
Proper trouble shooting can save you a ton of money.
What is wrong?
Any AC system codes?
Check pressures?
Any Leaks?
Replace cabin air filter?
Vacuum down and hold vacuum for a long period of time?
Refill with proper amount of new refridgerent?
Proper amount and typr of compressor oil in system?
Condenser and evap coils cleaned?
Proper trouble shooting can save you a ton of money.

Great points you've raised
I had a mechanic check the system, LP side was high and HP side was low, he recommended the new compressor.
it held vacuum for 30 mins and didn't lose any gas for a month between filling and emptying
I replaced the compressor (with a refurb). same results
I didn't add any oil, the mechanic said it wasn't important but I think I will add a little before I fill up again
it's not a climate control unit so don't have any codes.
no leaks, filters clean
condensor is ok but not sure about the evaporator
only thing left I could think of is the expansion valve.
