Loose Hose in Trunk

Hello, I drive a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK 430, and I noticed this clear little hose in the trunk. It sits under the cover. Does anybody happen to know what it goes to? Is it meant to be loose like this?

Thanks for any help anybody can provide!

It's a vent for your AGM battery. The battery should have a vent connection on the top that the plastic fitting on the end of the hose will plug in to.

Ah, I see. I did some research as well afterwards because I was unaware of the reasoning - had never needed to do that with a battery before haha. Thank you!
