I’ve been chasing a P0171 lean CEL for a bit and today trialed the cigar and transfer pump method and it works great.
I had tried using carb cleaner and didn’t get any effect to the engine RPM, but I wanted another way to validate.
The pump was only 6.99 at harbor freight and a Toscano Cigar. If you need to do this, I’d recommend using a latex glove as well, as the pressurization of the intake manifold keeps the fingers up for a significant time. I trialed removing some hoses to represent a leak, and the fingers don’t stay up then.
And really I think now, you don’t even need a pump. If you just had a straw and rubber glove, and pressurized the manifold you could validate there were no major leaks pretty quickly. And you could smoke the cigar if you wanted😂
