Display Defective Message Debug
I have had the display defective message displayed on startup for a while on my 2003 clk430. I could see the right middle middle one was dim, so I ordered new tan bulbs and replaced all 4 at once. But that has not resolved the issue.
I understand that the voltage check across the bulbs also validates the coolant level and windshield washers sensors. So I validated the WW sensor was 174 ohms (about 1/4 full) and the coolant sensor was 104ohms. I cleaned and replaced the contacts and reset the battery by removing the negative from the battery for 1 minute. The display defective message remains.
What do you recommend to try next?

I just realized I have just put in the wrong bulbs!!! I put in beige (1.5w), but they should have been the less common green (1.3w). I understand the system validates from voltage across the 4 bulbs and with respect to the 100ohm & 170ohm windshield washer and coolant sensors.
I’m going to order the harder to find green ones and replace and revalidate the display defective error.
If that doesn’t work, then I’ll look to get the upgraded scanner. I’ve been wanting to get the scanner anyway to get rid of that silly SOS message on the display.
