1999 Mercedes CLK 320
Engine code p0455 and p0410
Somebody please help me! I bought this car about 2 weeks ago and these codes popped up early this week. I don’t know anything about Mercedes cars, I took it to a mechanic who said it was some type of hose leak but didn’t tell me from where. I don’t have a lot of money, I have been laid off of work, what can I do to diagnose this problem and fix it. I’m young, stubborn. I needed a car and bought this one without prior knowledge of Mercedes cars. I’ve had a Chevy Dodge and Kia before.

P0455 is most likely the gas cap. Tighten it. Maybe buy a new one. P0410 is secondary air injection. Does the secondary air pump on the front of the engine run during the first 60 seconds after cold startup?

Double check the vacuum hoses on the Secondary Air Pump as well. Like Andy said listen for it running at start up. It makes a pretty good whining noise for about a minute. Top of engine, front side, dead center is the location.
