Wiring help/radio code info needed.
Im doing some of the SRX install tonight. So far i have fit the radar detector in the front behind the grille and now im trying to run the wire into the cabin of the car. I've already disassembled the fuse box, and am attempting to pass the wire through there and into the cabin as the guys on slk32.com did with an SR1. here's the link...

My questions are these
1)has anyone run wires from the engine compartment into the cabin before? any input on where to go through the fusebox? i really dont want to do anything that will open the possibility of water damage, etc. It doesnt look like the SLK guys really took that into account if they left the thing wide open like that after making a hole in the side. Also does anyone have any general advice about messing around in the fuse box? any huge donts??
2) Can i get my radio code from my dealer over the phone if i give him the VIN number? I may have to disconnect the radio before this is over. My audi never asked for the code once it was reattached, but im thinking this one might.
I'm taking pictures as i go along, so if you need pics to look at to offer advice just ask.
Thanks
bring in whatever wires you want. Just make sure to put some
of that foam in a can spray once your done, to make it nice
and air/water tight.
2) You might try to call MB on the phone to get the code, if they
have you down as the registered owner and you give them the
VIN, they should be able to help you.

But, why are you going through all that hassle? To hook properly into the fuse box you will need the proper connector. You can just go to the back of the cigarette lighter, make a Y-cable using standard 1/4" spade connectors, and be done with it. This has been covered a lot on this board, you may want to search on it if you don't understand the concept.
