Replaced Climate control, now radiator suction fan issue

I replaced the Climate control head on my 2001 CLK due to the display being bad. All looking good now and A/C working fine, but the radiator fan works up to a higher speed than before even though the ambient temps are not high. It then comes back on at high speed after being shut off for hours. Is there some coding in the A/C control that regulates radiator fan speed? My new controller came from California. Does it need to be re-coded somehow? Or is this problem unrelated?

Okay, no answer. I replaced the Climate control head with my original one using the good display from the one I purchased. That corrected the suction fan issue. Evidently climate control heads are different even though they have the same part number!

2003 CLK 320 convertible
Hi, I just saw this thread and yes, there can be differences. I have a US spec 2003 W208 CLK320. My climate control was not working correctly. No AC, suction fan on high all the time. Turns out that the climate control module had been replaced with a Euro spec 2003 module. The 2003 Euro spec is actually a W209. The US is a year behind for some reason. I bought a used 2002 unit from ebay, plugged it in and everything started working fine. Check the diagnostic codes and compare them to what should be showing for your car. Mine was showing completely wrong codes and codes for features not on my car.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I purchased a used part number A2108303285 because that is the part number that was in the car when I bought it used. When I put it in. it caused the hi speed fan issue and I read out codes for sun sensor, air quality sensor and pulse module. When I swapped the display into my original control and put it back in, the hi speed fan issue went away and all seems to be working correctly. However, I still get the codes as before even after clearing them. After investigating further, I do not see the "air purification filter" button shown in the owners manual for my car. I suspect that the control that was in the car when I bought it was not original. I wish there was someone who could tell me the proper climate control part number for a US 2001 CLK320 Cabriolet, before I make another purchase that is still not correct.
