I've heard the top speed for for clk430 is 155miles(250km) I've tried many many times and the car is not willing go beyond 140miles(225km)
so what IS the top speed for clk430???

 

our german models will show 260mh/h on the speedo which is "real" 250

seem´s u got another speed-limiter in the USA

CLK, congratulations the photo of your speedometer just ruined my week. Just kidding, I'm only jealous. What year is your CLK, our digital readouts are different.

dtclk320, I'm not sure of the exact translation of metric to English, but let's just say that we Long Islanders will not be doing 260 km/h on the LIE anytime soon.

 

Its about 162 mph. Felix implies that the speedometer is not calibrated accurately at this speed and indicates an actual 250 kph, which is about 156 mph.

 

Did you remove the limiter inorder to acheive 260km in your clk320? or they simply don't have a limiter in europe

most german cars with enough power have a limiter at 250km/h (Benz, Audi, BMW) but porsche don´t have. VW and OPEL have no limiter because they don´t drive so fast

i have a 2000 CLK320 and my maximum speed is exactly 250 km/h and the RPM at 5000 exactly. I think i'm gonna install the vmax unit. But who needs top speed, acceleration is more important!!

MBUSA had published that the top speed of the CLK320 and CLK430 was electronically limited to 131mph back in 1999. I read that the reason was because the suspension on US-spec CLKs was softer than Euro-spec models. I do know that the Euro-spec 320 and 430 are both electronically limited at 155.


Speedometer error can be pretty big at that speed, so a reading of 140 may very well be 131. I know BMW's speedometer tolerance will allow it to be off by 13mph at 100mph actual (i.e. it can read 113 when you're going 100, and BMW says that's within spec).

I was hoping 155mph for clk430, but hearing 135mph is dissapointing.....time to save money for V-Max

 

I've gone 140mph in my 2001 CLK320 w/ stock engine.

 

its governed to 135 so therefore your speedo is off a car cant go faster than its governed..!!! unless u have the software done which i dont believe you have got..!!

 

...It's easily solved....if you have a friendly dealer, just have him/her set the 430 limiter to that of a 55. My sales rep was the one that asked me if I wanted it done......for a $20.00 dollar tip, why not.

 

I don't know why mine could go that fast but it really did, it wouldn't go any faster after I hit 140mph. I wouldn't want to go any faster anyways...it's too dangerous.
