CLK430 Cab
Question CLK430 Lowering???

I just bought a CLK430 Cab (Silver/Blk). Car is pretty stock, but does have AMG rims. I have seen many comments about springs & lowering. Several questions:

1) Anybody have before and after pics??
2) Ride Issues?
3) Suggestions on where to get?
4) Suggestions on installers in San Diego?

Thanks!

H&R or Eibach springs, Bilstein or Koni shocks, #1 or #2 spring pads. You can order this stuff at good prices from evosport or tire rack. spring pads come from the dealer, but simon has them, too.

CLK430 Cab
Thanks for the replies!

Thanks everyone for the replies! I checked out evosport - looks like they have a ton of stuff.

One more follow up question - do you need to both the shocks and springs? Or can you do just the springs alone? Seems like a big $ difference.

Also will lowering cause the tires to hit the fenders?

Depends on wheel/tire size. If you're stock, don't worry. 10s in rear, and you'll probably need to roll the fenders.

2000 Clk 430
Dstroot,
I lowered my 430 with Eibach's and thinner pads. major handling improvement and looks. Shocks should be done since I beleive the travel is different. Springs were about $220. Good Luck

P.S. After lowering your car it WILL be out of alignment, even with the camber kit, but shouldn't hurt you. Mine has about 30,000 miles on it after lowering and my tires are wearing even. More negative camber helps you get around corners better.

I have wierd problem with my CLK 430 though.
l lowered my car with H&R and Bilstein Sport and I used spring pad number 5(thickest) in front and pad #1 (thinnest) in the back
I still found that the car is still too low and not level.
The rear end of the car still sit much higher than the front end.
Does anyone have this issue?

BTW the wheel gaps is about 15mm in the front and around 25 mm in the rear

that doesn't seem right...I have #2s in front and back and the gap is perfect.

did you install the springs backwards? That's the only thing i could think of that could cause that much of a discrepancy. perhaps the front springs are in the back and the backs are in the front. I know this sounds stupid, but they will fit backwards. Maybe you should take a look at it. The front and rear springs will have different numbers on them, maybe you should jack up the car and look at these, post them on the board so someone can compare them. It seems awfully fishy...

also post some pics if you can (from side view) so we can see how bad it actually is.

Wrong installation seem to be a reasonable explanation, but
today I jacked my car up and found that everything is in right place.
Based on both front spring are larger in diameter and thicker than the one in the back.

NOTE: Linh is not associated in any way, shape or form with Autowerks Express, though he probably means well. All our customers are treated fairly, and billed consistently the same.

Stolenmojo - is everything installed? How is the ride and handling? I still haven't made my purchase yet and would really like to hear from you. What exhaust did you get?

Cool

i have almost the same setup w/ h&r and pads also. my alignment is fine and tire wear is even too. guess i got lucky. the ride is stiffer but i no way as stiff as bmw m3 or anything like as stiff as a bimmer.
