Programming Smart Key

I bought a new Smart Key off ebay because the thing that held the blade key was broken and it kept slipping off. How much and how long will it take to get this programmed if at all possible?

Assuming its not possible, is there any way to use the housing from the new key to replace the locking mechanism for the valet blade on the old key?

you can't program the key you bought off ebay...

you can however take apart the new key and install all your original key's parts in the new housing if that is all you are looking for...

You can install the guts of the old key into a new one? Any advise on how to carefully do this?

just open up the key as if you were changing the battery.... then, you'll see a small peg/clip that holds the curcuit board to the casing... once u unclip the board, it just slides in...

if you happen to break the clip while removing the board, no big deal... 1.) as long as you don't break the clip from the 2nd case, you'll be ok... 2.) once you slide in the battery cover, the board will sit firmly inside (it won't move).

Thats all there is to it... 1 of my 3 keys have a broken peg/clip, and it works as if new... so don't worry

thanks so much I was about to spend some loot for a new key because that latch that holds the valaet key in place no longer functions and I almost lost my key several times.

I bought the ebay key with the assumption it could be programmed, but at least now I'll be basically getting a new key.

if its just the latch that is broken.. you can probably just use the battery cover & key lock from the new key... you won't even need to take apart the other key....

How does the key work? (newbie here)

How does it work? If I pull the metal key out am I supposed to be able to stick the other end back in for easy usage?

How do I open it for battery change? Does changing the battery improve the working distance? (It shoud...)

Other features on the key I might have missed?

One more thing: I have two keys the other one is bigger and is missing the lagguage compartment open button. What's the story on this?

(I have german manuals so I can't read those)

If you hold the unlock button for a few seconds, your windows (and sunroof if you have one) should roll down and the opposite if you hold the lock button for a few.

At least the clk430 does, I'm sorta learning new things about these cars also. I have had mine for a week.
