COMAND

COMAND has a CD player, but no cassette. One CD can be inserted into COMAND, but you can install a 6 disc changer in the trunk.

CD player w/out COMMAND?

If I get my CLK without COMMAND, will it still come with a CD player? I thought I saw that one of the add-on packages you could get was the "cellphone/CD changer" - but my assumption is that the package would either include or require COMMAND. In my current RX300, I've got a 6-disk CD changer in the glove compartment, and I have really become accustomed to it. To have a CD player that only held 1 CD in a car that's much nicer would **** me off big time.

So my question: Can I have a 6-disk CD changer in my CLK500 without COMMAND?

COMAND "includes" a single slot CD player in the dash (it is the same slot where the navigation CD goes, so you can't get directions & listen to the music at the same time). If you get COMAND, you lose the cassette player. The only way to play tapes is to use the auxillary input (i.e. your tape player, sitting on the seat/floor/in the glove box) with a cable running to the aux input located in the glove box).

A 6-slot CD changer can be added, located in the trunk. This can be purchased individually, or as a part of a phone/CD changer package (K2a or K2c if I remember correctly). Oh - with the changer, you can navigate & listen to CD's at the same time and yes, you can get the changer without COMAND.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have a COMMAND related question but it is related so I will post here If the COMMAND system is not ordered, will there definately be a *shelf* in it's place? I honestly do not want to order the COMMAND system on my CLK, but if there is a shelf in its place, I will be forced to order it. Thanks a lot

interior w/out COMMAND

Yes, there will be a "shelf" if you don't get the COMMAND system. However - it doesn't look as bad as it sounds:

The aux input is standard with COMAND. It is not possible to get a cassette player with COMAND.

well i though as of december 31, 2001 cassettes were stopped making. So up to that point it's ok to have cassette player. But now who would want an obsolte system?? I wouldn't.
