Installation

Tools required -

To get the leds to work you will only need pliers or a crimper and tap into the parking light socket wires with the load equalizer, so no other tools are really needed. But of course you would want to go with a cleaner install so I'll list some tools that might help along the way.

Before you start first make sure the leds you purchased fits into the housing, you dont want to go all that way then find out your led doesnt fit. To get to the parking light socket, look behind your headlight you should see 2 covers, the bigger one is where the headlight is, the smaller one is where the parking light is located. Turn the cover to open then you should see 2 sockets, top one is high beam the lower one is what you need. Simply give it a little pull, it should come right out. Check for sizing only do not attempt to plug the leds in and turn them on w/o installing the load equalizers first. You could blow a fuse or worse. After checking take the cover that you took off (take the cover off for the other parking light socket as well) and drill a small hole on each cover, big enough to fit 2 wires. Since we cant mount the equalizer inside the headlight the hole is for the wires from the equalizer. If you have a test light or you know which wire is for the parking light from headlight wire harness then you can tap the wires there. I was lazy so I drilled a hole instead.

Once you have the holes ready, you might want to extend the wires on the load equalizer a bit longer. As you can see from the first image the wires on the equalizer are pretty short, making it longer will be easier for you when you mount them.

Remember to do one side at a time, after making sure the side you worked on is working then start on the other side. Take one equalizer along with the light cover. Run the 2 wires through the cover, use one wire tap (each eq comes with 2 wire taps) tap one of the wires from the EQ to the brown wire on the parking light socket, tap the other to the grey wire on the parking light socket. The EQ wires doesnt have a + or - so dont worry about which wire to tap as long as one is tapped into brown and one is tapped into the grey.

Once both wires are tapped you can then plug the led in and try turning it on to see if it works. Note: depending on which type of leds you purchased Polarized or Non, after turning it on if it doesnt light up, quickly turn power off then unplug the led turn it 180 degress then plug it in and try again. If it works then you can repeat the same steps for the other parking light. After installing both EQ you need to find a spot to mount them, you can mount them anywhere you like just remember they get real hot so dont mount them on plastic. Hope this helps.

I found a set of 9LED bulbs on ebay. Would these be too bright? I'm thinking about when I drive the car in a snowfall or fog and making the lights brighter impairs your vision further.

Also, with the load equalizer's wire tap do I need to strip the coating off the wire with the crimper? Or will I just be able to snap it shut after putting the wire in there like autoillumination's instructions seem to indicate?

Thanks for the install instructions Mtechnik. Great job! Oh yea if anyone wants to see what clear bumper lights look like on a black clk, here's some pics. I know these pics are horrible, but I have to settle for that since my sister took my camera to borrow. Right now I have PIAA 19171 on the bumpers and will be replacing my parking lights with the same. I have PIAA H-290E shown for my fog lights.

hmm 9 leds, i wouldnt be worried about the brightness but the fitting. Are they the same size as the 6 led ones? As for the wire tap, you dont need to strip the wires just make sure both wires are there before you crimp it.

i just want to make sure on one thing, so the equalizers don't actually connect to the bulb. Just one end to the gray wire and one end to the brown wire?

Sorry if the questions are starting to sound dumb, but I've never worked with wiring before. So why do you need to drill the holes into the parking light cover?

no prob, anytime and good luck.

As for Chi500, no need to be sorry, its not dumb question at all. The equalizers dont connect to the bulb itself but needs to tap into the brown and grey wires from the parking light and since the parking light sockets are located inside the covers, which is why holes needs to be drilled.

so you're tapping the wires inside the covers? Or can it be done outside of the cover, where I see the brown and grey wires exposed?

i suppose you can tap it outside if you're sure those are the wires for the parking light.

What about the Fog Lights, did you swapped those to LED too? Are they the same 6 LED setup? I've been loooking for a solution to the parking lights and fog lights for so long. This is really awesome.

i think they have a limit on sizing on this forum. try making the file size smaller by shrinking the pics.
