Alignment and Other

Regards to All...Am new to the Forum and recently [July, 2005] purchased a 2005 CLK 500 Coupe and wish to obtain feedback to the following:

1- Have you found that the auto continus to pull to the right despite dealer alignment attempts to fix the situation?...Have seen at least one comment refer that this condition is continuous/common...True?

2005 CLK500 Coupe
I actually noticed the same problem while driving my girlfriend home late last night.
The car ever so slightly moved to the right whenever I lifted my hands from the steering wheel.
My car is new as well, a 2005 CLK500 Coupe purchased at the end of May.

you are 100% correct the car does pull to right. If you really search the forum you will see threads on this topic for our w209 it is very slight but it does if you stare at your steering wheel while you are going straight you will see it slightly turned left very slight

Since the tires are "Directional Tires" they have a tendency to "dig into a groove and follow", in other words they will always pull right or left even though the car is correctly aligned.

If your car has a tendency to pull MORE than usual, or more than you think it should look for this additional characteristic while driving… Does your steering wheel or entire car tend to “shake”? If so, your tires may be “out of round”. One way to confirm if the tires are out of round, is to lift your car on a hoist and spin the tire. If they are out of round, the tire(s) will spin lopsided.

Most MB dealers have a special tire balancing machine where they can measure the foot lbs. per tire and find the proper balance for the “tire to wheel”. Mind you the dealer charges a small fortune for this type of balancing. But it will lessen the pulling to the right and/or left and smooth out the ride in your MB.

Hope this helps…

Mine does pull to the right and the dealership hasn't been able to fix it. Tomorrow I go in again for a non functioning air conditioner. It blows...but not cold air.

i asked the dealer about this and they said that roads here in california are crowned (for water drain) so even perfectly aligned cars will drift to the right. does that sound correct?

That sounds exactly right. Try driving in an empty parking lot or other flat surface to see if it still pulls.

I received mine with the same problem and it was because the steering wheel was off center and that corrected the problem. I also noticed that differences in tire pressure cause it to pull to the right or to the left.
