Angry Brake Squeal Is Back!!!

Dealer replaced pads and rotors less than 1000 miles ago for an annoying squeal; now it's back again coming from the right front only...any thoughts?

Sub par.

I'm assuming it was all done under warranty.

If the dealer did it, all I can say honestly is keep driving the car for a few hundred miles for the 'bed-in' material (I can't remember the right term for it) to wear out and see if you stil have the squeal. If you do, it might be time to do rationalize and accept the fact that you drive a vehicle with high performance brakes, and/or move to EBC Greenstuff pads or Porterfields, depending on how much you want to get rid of the squeal, or still have it but have a lot more efficent stopping power.

Yes all warranty. The car has 1000 miles since the brakes were done and the squeal just started again but only from the right front

You should keep the same brake sensor from your current setup.
If not, get them from your dealer, they should be cheap. If I remember right (which I'm 30% sure) they are around 15$. But again, it's been so long since I bought brake sensors.

I didn't know you could do that. Can that also be done with the porterfields?

I don't think the brake senors are dependant on the type of pads you purchase.

I just don't know because I know some people with the porterfields complained that they didnt have the sensors to tell them when they needed new pads.

Had the same issue. Merc removed my back wheels (where I had the noise coming from). I reversed the car at high speed and slammed on. It amazingly did the trick, but I wouldn't recommend it really. However, I would suggest bedding the wheels in and braking earlier and longer to see if it takes the noise away.

EBC green Brake Pads

Ok guys:
I'll tell you what I Know , but at the risk of being tongue lashed by others. The sensor pulls out from the top of the Inside pad, a gentle tug on the top , Not On the wires . The sensor will come right out. There is a corresponding hole on the green pads. I changed mine out because I was tried of the Dust & Squeeling. I posted some info on www.amgpower.com forums for CLK5.5 amg Brake pad Dust Author PTE. I did a light cut with a spiral grind finish on new rotors with only a 1000 miles on them. You may have to Google to find it. Read away . I have experenced your plight too . Thanks ___PTE___

Thanks. The thing is, right after they replaced the front pads and rotors the left front caliper pin came loose and caused some minor rotor damage to one of the new rotors up front, they replaced it with another new one and that side is quiet, it's the right front that squeals???

RJC,

Had a similar problem (right front break squeal) on my 05 CLK coupe. Dealer (MB Manhattan) told me they grinded the back of the front pads, cleaned rotors and lubricated as necessary. Well it's only been 120 - 150 miles (mostly highway) but my squeal seems to have gone away.

You may want to speak to your service advisor about this and see if this is a viable option for your problem.

An another note what made you go for an 07 M3? If it's the HP you can get considerably more out of your 5.0 ltr by going with Kleeman, Renntech or others and have a much more comfortable riding car. I say this cause I drove an 05 M3 convertible (six speed w/19" wheel option) and while quick and turned like it was on rails it was a very harsh ride. The harsh ride and not so great build quality of the M3 was a couple of reasons I went for the 3 pointed star .

All the best.

Roger

Hey Roger:

The squeal did stop for about 1000 miles but it's now back. I hope you have better luck than me as this is round 2 with the squeal for me, the last time was a bout a year ago but a rotor pad change did the trick for a year and as you know they just had to do it again.

I can understand the M3 with the 19's causing a hard ride especially in the convt. The convt does not have very good structural or torsional rigidity. The new M3 (E90) seems to offer what I'm looking for, A 400 hp V8, 4 seat, 2 doors, in a sport GT. I'm still a bit worried about a first year production car though especilly on such a high strung engine as a NA 4.0 liter 400 hp V8 and a new 7 speed SMG trans. I really don't want any mods done on my cars these days so I'll pass on the Kleeman stuff etc and I have about had it with recent MB's, the quality is just not there like it used to be. My current lease is up in May of 06 and that's really not the best time to get a euro car as the 07's will be out in July-Oct. so I might have wait till then on a totally different car or just get the new M in Oct. and hope that the first years bugs don't come out and bite too hard.

Dumb questions to follow.........

1. What is the connection between a high performance vehicle and squeeling brakes?

2. What does driving backwards fast and stepping on your brakes accomplish? Or are you pulling my leg

My service advisor said "hey, our brakes squeel.......nothing can be done". Well gee, thanks sparky. Next time I put down 60K cash I'll feel better about that.

High performance pads always squeal. It's just a way of life I guess. I've never driven a nice car which didn't squeal.

Are you talking about bedding in your brakes?

H/P brakes do not all squeal. The brakes on my 911's never squealed including the turbo's. The brakes on my last 3 CLK 430's did not squeal nor did those on my last M3 or past Ferrari's. The new C6 Z51 Vettes had a squeal issue but Chevy finally issued TSB and changed out the pads and all is well (this was after months and months of the dealers saying "they all do that, it's normal"

Looks like this will be my last MB for awhile, way too many quality issues negatively effected my last 2 MB's; 2003 500 and 2004 500

Lease is up in May, do I get the first year production M3??? I'm really worried about 1st production year high performance cars
