Steering Wheel Rubbing Away

Hi everyone

Im really pi**ed off with mercedes at the moment.

The leather on my steering wheel has rubbe doff on the top section, its gone right in the top dead centre of the wheel.

Mercedes have said its not a warrenty issue as its a outside cause, also mercedes head office claims said the same and they have said theat the HOPE request was rejected im now gonna write a letter of complaint.

Has anyone had or seen anything like this???

Please help me get merc to sort this out.

i'll post pic's asap

Thanks
Neil

BMW & Mercedes can be bad at times.

With their names you would think that they would stand behind their products a little better. I have seen situations where they pick the dumbest excuses.

The same thing is happening to mine, although not as pronounced yet, but some days I touch the steering wheel and I feel all this debris rubbing off like the leather is deteriorating.

Would it fall under warranty if the stitching from the leather on the steering wheel started to come undone?

You can probably get a shop to redo it for you pretty easily. One of the local shops near me wraps OEM wheels so they are more like the 'sport' style victor wheels with thicker, more ergonomic grips.

i know how you feel about mercedes, I recently had to argue getting my passenger heated seat replaced, they were reluctant to repair it under warranty even though they'd repaired the drivers side only 6 months earlier

if you don't get anywhere you could always try this place http://www.mercedesperformance.co.uk/

they have some pretty nice steering wheels to suit your car and i dare say they are cheaper than going to the dealer

Mine has really worn down and I only have 22,000 miles on my car. This is not normanl wear and tear and is unacceptable. Has anyone been sucessfull in getting MB to replace the steering wheel under warranty? I am thinking of taking it in to have them replace it.

I Can Sell you a Spare

I have an OEM steering wheel off a 2003 CLK 500. It's in the black leather. I replaced mine with a wood one. I'll part with it for $100 USD.

I have 89,000 miles and it is starting to fade away.
