Maintenance info needed please

My friend is looking at a 2003 CLK-500 with roughly 40k miles.

I was wondering is there a site he can use to see what maintenance/service needs to be done and should already be done?

I know with BMW M3s they have service interval 1,2 thats about it. It goes in at 30k and then at 75k

At 40k miles what needs to be done soon? How long did everyones brake pads last? Fluids need to be changed? How often for oil change?

Hope this helps - it switches between A and B service approximately every 10-15k miles on my car:

Flexible Service System - A-Service
What we do:

* Change your vehicle's engine oil and filter
* Replace the dust filter in all SLK, CLK, C-Class and E-Class models
* Ensure the warning and indicator lamps, horn, windshield/headlamp, wiper and washer systems, and seat belts are functioning correctly.
* Inspect tires and check tire pressure (including spare)
* Inspect brake pad thickness and disc condition
* Check and correct all fluid levels
* Reset your vehicle's FSS counter

Flexible Service System - B-Service
What we do:

* Change your vehicle's engine oil and filter
* Replace the dust filter in all SLK, CLK, C-Class and E-Class models, and in S-Class and SL-Class models without the active charcoal filter
* Replace windshield wiper inserts
* Inspect and rotate tires
* Lubricate and inspect throttle linkage
* Ensure the parking brake, steering play, headlamps and exterior lamps, warning and indicator lamps, horn, windshield/headlamp wiper and washer systems, seat belts, and backrest lock (S-Class only) are functioning correctly
* Inspect tires and check tire pressure (including spare)
* Inspect brake pad thickness and disc condition
* Inspect front axle ball joints and Poly-V-belt
* Check and correct all fluid levels
* Reset your vehicle's FSS counter

Whats the FSS counter? Also, are these the only services up to 100k miles?

Does every dealership do this between every 10-15k miles?

Is there any cost to this?

Jon - (want to buy 2003 CLK-500)

This is my friends account - these are my questions.

My dealer said that it would cost $130 for the A service and $350 for B service. But figure that you only need to have it done basically once a year, and it's not too bad.

yep. Once every 12K miles.

That's what I mean about the price not being to bad. When I had the BMW, I did oil changes every 3K miles by myself and I used the expensive oil (costing me about $30-40/per oil change)... so, yeah.

Yea but with the BMW , well M3 anyway it tells you when you need it. It starts off at 15,000 miles and on your driving style / habits goes down from there. You just bring in ur clk-500 every 12k miles? Like for me I can drive from January to December and only hit like 10k miles... so 1 year they do service A, the next year service b?

how often do you all change your oil? How many miles / time interval -- do all of you wait till your service appoint?

I drive the car spirited in nice weather, Id be scared to wait 12k miles...

I'm planning to wait. Of course I'll check the oil level myself from time to time, but as long as it's full, yeah I'll wait until the computer reminds me to go.

MB wouldn't have done this if it wasn't safe/optimal iol change interval.

yep, you're correct. And the price depends on a dealer, on their labor rates

Mercedes uses Mobil 1 synthetic. You can get it at any autoparts store.

MObil 1 is tri-synthetic. Not sure what's so different from regular synthetic, but it's Tri

I don't think the mileage matters, it's more of a time thing. For instance, my car will be a year old next month and it has 5300 miles on it. The car told me 2 days ago that it needs an A-service.

Hey 32AMG, your profile says you own a CLK500. How come you can't answer your friend's questions?

I haven't had the car that long, and I like to make sure I know the information 100% before I would spread information. I bought the car used obviously, and I haven't had a service a or b done yet, it will actually be soon according to my dic. And since he was buying i figured I'd get the details. Thanks for asking though

The answers to a lot of the questions you and your friend are posting are in the service manuals. You should probably read that over. Please post pics of your car
