Tire Pressure Monitor?

Does the 2003 CLK500 come with a tire pressure monitoring system?

Didn't the US Gov mandate this for all 2003 cars/SUV's?

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
No. No.

C5 Corvettes, new SLs, Lexus SC430 are a few new model cars, that have the tire pressure monitoring system.

It limits the choice of types of tires you can use, because each wheel has a transmitter and certain tires cause interference.

Also the transmitters have batteries, which need to be replaced periodically.

Tire pressure monitoring systems are required in all passenger cars in the US in 2005.

I'm not a fan of the TPM, because you have no way to upgrade the wheels. You can't go with aftermarket or even chrome the stock rims without getting a default in the instrument cluster display. I found this out the hard way with a very disturbed CL500 client of mine who order this option and then put 20" LM-5's on it and had to get the system deactivated so the "Visit Workshop" light would go off. Not wise if you are not happy with the factory rims.
