spoonie, by MB's intention, CLKers have always been a minority. i wonder if we could qualify for some sort of special government protection... OK, not a p.c. comment. please take it with a grain of salt.

'13 SL550 '15 C400 4MATIC and a really old Honda Accord
CLK

I have seen and sat in the new CLK and was a bit disappointed. Pkorkis was right about his description of this car. I recently sold '02 CLK320 and doing the European Delivery for the new one this November. The new CLK's interior looks stylistic and up to date however, the material somehow feels really cheap like a C-Class. In addition, I also have a 323CI coupe and a Prelude.

Now that Germany has passed a law that car manufacturers are responsible for 100% the cost of recycling a used vehicle, I'm starting to wonder if all German cars in the future will be made of cheaper materials (which I imagine are easier to recycle).

Can u recycle carbon fiber? If so... there is an idea. CLK with a 200 hp engine would probably have the same specs (0-60)!?

Carbon fiber seats with mesh like the Herman Miller office chairs.

99 SLK 230/03 CLK 2003
The lease on my '99 SLK 230 was coming to a close and for the last 3 months I've been looking around for a decent car that's half as enjoyable as the SLK 230 but accounting for a few personal changes, a 2 seater wouldn't be viable.

I test drove the 330xi, the X5, the ML 430, E320, and lastly the '03 CLK 320. Though the 330 was a fun drive, every 4th or 5th car in NYC is a 3 series. I decided against the 330Xi thinking it wasn't worth the price while being as common as a Toyota Camry and the fact that the dealership was filled with a bunch of fools who couldn't sell a car to cab driver.

Last week, an MB dealer here got the new CLK so I took it for a spin. Yes, it's not as muscular looking as the 208s but the drive was splendid and almost as much fun as my SLK. Needless to say, I'm picking up the CLK 320 in 2 days.

Just my $.02

Meh. I like both the older CLK and the new one. Personally though I would take the new one over the older one but that's just me.

330Ci? Nah... M3 Yea

Boy even i dont agree with that. A 330ci over the clk500? Thats insane. I mean if you could afford the clk500 you could look into the M3. Im sure nobody would argue with you about that. Thats just a matter of choosing performance over luxury. But a 330 over the clk500 is like losing in every category. Sorry just my 2 cents.

No one was talking about taking the 330Ci over the CLK500, it was the CLK 320. If you are considering the CLK500, why would you have the 330Ci as your other consideration, it would be the M3. But if money weren't the case. If I had to chose only between a 330Ci and CLK500, I'd rather have the 330Ci, as far as looks go. Performance? I can't argue one bit, I'd take the performance of the CLK500 in a second. But I don't think I could take the CLK500 over the 330Ci as a whole because no matter how quick the car or how nice it is inside, I couldn't be happy with the car if I didn't like the looks of the exterior. And I just don't like the W209 very much, even w/the AMG package. Don't get me wrong, the W209 isn't hideous, but I don't think it looks good compared to the W208. I just like the car to have a more powerful and masculine look to it.
P.S. I saw a CLK500 in I think Obsidian black (some metallic black) with AMG package (chrome wheels-not a fan, but they can look good), and it looked decent. I think that from the front to the back window the car looks nice, but the back just kills it for me. That's just my opinion.

What you smoking?

Hey Porkis,

In your first post you said you were considering a clk 430, clk 320 w/amg pkg or bmw 330ci. Well, last time i checked a 320 w/kit will be around 50k and 430 around 55k with a few necessary options. You never mentioned a M3 which is around 50k and not 40k for the 330ci. If money is no object why get the 330ci?

Also, if you think the clk 430 is so masculine and nice why did you get the bmw? We know how well off you are with all those cars in your stable.

Free speech when you make sense. Don't expect to be on a clk forum 209 and say you would rather have a lowly budget for a young kid with parents that have money and not be spanked.

Downright Hideous!

-First off, easy up huh? Its a forum where people can post their opinions. If you didn't understand my situation, ask politely, don't be a gerk about it. I don't want to get into some argument that will get us nowhere.

-My dad was willing to pay up to 50-55g's for a car. But he didn't want me to get the M3 because he thought it was too fast. So I chose the 330Ci because that was 2nd on my list besides the 2002 CLK430 (of course M3 was first but that wasn't a possibility).

I didn't get the CLK430 because I didn't want to get a car a year before they were changing the design. So I got the 330Ci. And tell me, what the f*ck kind of comment is that about me being well off. What difference does that make? Think about what your saying before you say it.

jealous?

Easy son. Nobody here envy's you and especially not me. We could go on about my family's wealth, but who cares if its not your own. Is your dad gonna buy you a new car when you turn 30? I should hope you won't take it. By the way, who lists what their grandma and aunt drives. Who gives a rats ***. I hope you don't go around telling people my family this and that because that's what it sounds like to me. Go make your own life and quit bragging like some young punk. Arrogance, will get you nowhere in life Boy.

Haha, ok "son". Whatever you say. Just keep insulting me because I didn't make my own money...since I'm able to make a fortune at age 16. I didn't want to turn this into an arguement and I still don't want to. But your throwing out childish and absurd comments at me about me being a arrogant punk is just being rude. Your 33 years old, and your starting an arguement with a 16 year old. Do you feel good about yourself? I hope you do because I really don't know what your deal is. I could go on insulting you, but I really don't feel like it. I stated clearly in the beginning that I didn't want to turn this into an argument, simply a discussion about the W209. Now I have to sit here and try to calm down a 33 year-old therapist. Haha, your double my age, now come on, give it a rest. I couldn't care less if you think I'm spoiled, arrogant, naive, etc. because I know what kind of person I am. I work hard in school, and I'm hoping to get accepted at Northwestern or UCLA come March. In my own way I've earned my car. ...You should feel like a fool, because you sound like one. Do me a favor, and just leave this thread, because I don't feel like reading crap like this here, I want to read about the W209. If you want to start arguments with 16 year-olds, goto an AOL chatroom, maybe you'll find more willing people there.
Thank You..."son"

Haha, ok "son". No my parents don't monitor my activities, do yours? I think they should, considering you act like a 14 year old little boy. Didn't I ask you to just stop responding? Yeah, I think your done.

Re: re: looks of the new W209

As for MY opinion of the W209, I think it has lost it's distinctive Mercedes look. When this new Mercedes is even being CONSIDERED to look like an Acura or Volvo or upcoming Honda Accord then it is not distinctive Mercedes. Go read the new E-class forum re: comments what people think the new model looks like. All you read in the CLK forums is doubt about the new look, except from those who have taken delivery of the car or are scheduled to, who defend their decision. You can know, without even reading the signature, who has or has ordered the W209 and who hasn't, just by the tone of the message. The E-class forum is different, because the new E-class is distinguishable as a Mercedes. This is nothing to say about the performance of the car. The car may have a bigger engine and more rigid frame but we're talking looks here.

Honestly, I think the W209 looks like a p***y car. I have the W208 and was scheduled to pick up the W209 first week of delivery, but I cancelled it once I saw it in person. If I had to change my W208, I would pick the 330ci before the new W209 (for looks.)
Safet,
I took delivery of a 209 yesterday and I will agree with you that the car has lost much of its masculinity and that the 208 looks better. However, I don't think it is any less distinguishable as a MB. If you look at the new E, the back is almost identical to the CLK. If you look at the overall look and shape of the two cars, you can see that they were cut from the same cloth. I'm not arguing what looks better and what doesn't but what I'm getting at is that MB looks to be changing the definition of "distinguished as a Mercedes". The first time we saw that was with the new S class and now they're passsing that same look on to all the new cars (it was the C last year).

Since the lease on my '99 SLK was up, I had to get a car and after looking at the 330 and the CLK, I felt the CLK was a more elegant looking car than the 330. Not to mention, there was some snob appeal of having a car that wasn't 1 out of every 5 in NYC. The 3 series is basically the Camry for people with a little bit of extra dough and frankly, I'm just bored of seeing them on the street.
Cheers

Theres a reason they are everywhere

Its a decent car and its been out for a while. Give it some time the clks will be roaming the streets as well. You cant get exclusivity unless u are paying 100k bro. The bottom line is these cars are affordable and even those without enough money can lease or finance. The clk is new but in a year or two when its all over the streets it might put things into perspective for you as to which one is the better overall ride.
